When descending a steep, off-road slope, the XF’s standard All Surface Progress Control allows you to creep down safely. The S60 doesn’t offer All Surface Progress Control.

Both the XF and the S60 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The XF comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The S60’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the XF for 2 years and 24,000 miles longer than Volvo pays for maintenance for the S60 (5/60,000 vs. 3/36,000).

The XF P250’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 11 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 258) than the S60 B5’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid.

Regardless of its engine, regenerative brakes improve the XF’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. Volvo only offers a regenerative brake system on the S60 T8.

The XF has 3.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the S60 (19.5 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better traction, the XF has larger standard tires than the S60 (245/45R18 vs. 235/45R18). The XF’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the S60 (255/35R20 vs. 235/45R18).

The XF’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the S60’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the XF offers optional 20-inch wheels. The S60’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The front and rear suspension of the XF uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the S60, which uses transverse leafs springs in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

The XF offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The S60’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the XF’s wheelbase is 3.4 inches longer than on the S60 (116.5 inches vs. 113.1 inches).

The XF has .1 inches more front headroom, .8 inches more front shoulder room, 1 inch more rear headroom, 2.5 inches more rear legroom and 1.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the S60.

A Trailer Stability Assist is standard on the XF, using the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. A trailer sway program costs extra on the S60.

The engine in the XF is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the S60. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

The XF SE/R-Dynamic’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The S60 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

A power rear sunshade is optional in the XF SE/R-Dynamic to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The S60 doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the XF SE/R-Dynamic keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The S60 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The XF R-Dynamic offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the S60.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Jaguar XF has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the S60.
