Compare the2023 Jaguar XFVS 2023 Cadillac CT5

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Jaguar XF have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Cadillac CT5 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

Both the XF and CT5 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The XF has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The CT5’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the XF’s standard All Surface Progress Control allows you to creep down safely. The CT5 doesn’t offer All Surface Progress Control.

The XF’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The CT5 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the XF and the CT5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The XF comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The CT5’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the XF for 5 years and 60,000 miles. Jaguar will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the CT5.

The XF P250’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 9 more horsepower (246 vs. 237) and 11 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 258) than the CT5’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

On the EPA test cycle the XF gets better mileage than the CT5:

Regenerative brakes improve the XF’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The CT5 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The XF has 2 gallons more fuel capacity than the CT5 (19.5 vs. 17.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jaguar XF higher (7 out of 10) than the Cadillac CT5 (5 to 7). This means the XF produces up to 8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the CT5 every 15,000 miles.

For better stopping power the XF’s brake rotors are larger than those on the CT5:

The XF’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the CT5 are solid, not vented.

The XF has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the CT5; it requires you to depend on its optional run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

For better maneuverability, the XF’s turning circle is .8 feet tighter than the CT5’s (38.2 feet vs. 39 feet). The XF’s turning circle is 2.5 feet tighter than the CT5 AWD’s (38.2 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The XF has .2 inches more front shoulder room, 1.6 inches more rear headroom and .7 inches more rear shoulder room than the CT5.

With its sedan body style, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the XF offers cargo security. The CT5’s non-lockable folding seat defeats cargo security.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the XF has a standard power trunk, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button or just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, completely leaving your hands free. The CT5 doesn’t offer a power trunk, so its trunk has to be closed manually.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist on the XF uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The CT5 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the CT5 Premium Luxury/Sport, the XF SE/R-Dynamic has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position (with optional power wheel adjuster) and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

If the windows are left open on the XF the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the CT5 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the XF to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The CT5 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The XF SE/R-Dynamic offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The CT5 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

A power rear sunshade is optional in the XF SE/R-Dynamic to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The CT5 doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

The XF has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats cost extra on the CT5. The XF SE/R-Dynamic also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the CT5.
