2023 Jaguar I-Pace
2023 Subaru Solterra

Safety

Both the I-Pace and Solterra have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The I-Pace has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Solterra’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Both the I-Pace and the Solterra have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The I-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Solterra’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

The I-Pace’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Solterra’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the I-Pace for 5 years and 60,000 miles. Jaguar will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Subaru doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Solterra.

Engine

The I-Pace’s electric motors produces 179 more horsepower (394 vs. 215) and 263 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 249) than the Solterra’s electric motors.

Fuel Economy and Range

The I-Pace can travel longer on a full charge than the Solterra on a full charge:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the I-Pace has larger standard tires than the Solterra (245/50R20 vs. 235/60R18). The I-Pace’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Solterra (255/40R22 vs. 235/60R18).

The I-Pace’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Solterra Premium’s standard 60 series tires. The I-Pace’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Solterra Limited/Touring’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the I-Pace has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Solterra Premium. The I-Pace’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels on the Solterra Limited/Touring.

The I-Pace offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Solterra; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the I-Pace uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Solterra, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The I-Pace offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Solterra’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The I-Pace has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The I-Pace’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Solterra doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the I-Pace’s wheelbase is 5.5 inches longer than on the Solterra (117.7 inches vs. 112.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the I-Pace is 1.7 inches wider in the front and 2 inches wider in the rear than on the Solterra.

Passenger Space

The I-Pace has 1.1 inches more front headroom and .1 inches more rear headroom than the Solterra.

Cargo Capacity

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the I-Pace’s available liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Solterra doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Towing

The I-Pace has a 1653 lbs. towing capacity. The Solterra has no towing capacity.

Ergonomics

The I-Pace offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Solterra doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The I-Pace’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Solterra Premium’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the I-Pace to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Solterra doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The I-Pace offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Solterra doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The I-Pace’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Solterra has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Jaguar I-Pace has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Solterra.
