2023 Jaguar I-Pace
2023 Nissan Ariya

Safety

Both the I-Pace and Ariya have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The I-Pace has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Ariya’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the I-Pace. But it costs extra on the Ariya.

Both the I-Pace and the Ariya have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The I-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Ariya’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

The I-Pace’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Ariya’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the I-Pace for 5 years and 60,000 miles. Jaguar will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Nissan doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Ariya.

Engine

The I-Pace’s electric motors produces 180 more horsepower (394 vs. 214) and 291 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 221) than the Ariya’s standard electric motor. The I-Pace’s electric motors produces 156 more horsepower (394 vs. 238) and 291 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 221) than the Ariya +/Premier’s standard electric motor. The I-Pace’s electric motors produces 59 more horsepower (394 vs. 335) and 512 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. ) than the Ariya’s optional electric motors. The I-Pace’s electric motors produces 5 more horsepower (394 vs. 389) and 70 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 442) than the Ariya Platinum+’s standard electric motors.

Fuel Economy and Range

The I-Pace can travel longer on a full charge than the Ariya on a full charge:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the I-Pace has larger standard tires than the Ariya (245/50R20 vs. 235/55R19).

The I-Pace’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Ariya’s standard 55 series tires. The I-Pace’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Ariya Platinum+’s optional 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the I-Pace has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Ariya. The I-Pace’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the Ariya Platinum+.

The I-Pace offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Ariya; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the I-Pace uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Ariya, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The I-Pace offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Ariya’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The I-Pace has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The I-Pace’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Ariya doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the I-Pace’s wheelbase is 8.4 inches longer than on the Ariya (117.7 inches vs. 109.3 inches).

The I-Pace’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the Ariya’s (53.3% to 46.7%). This gives the I-Pace more stable handling and braking.

For greater off-road capability the I-Pace has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Ariya (6.5 vs. 6.3 inches), allowing the I-Pace to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The front grille of the I-Pace uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Ariya doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

The I-Pace has .3 inches more front headroom and .5 inches more front shoulder room than the Ariya.

Cargo Capacity

The I-Pace has a much larger cargo volume than the Ariya with its rear seat up (25.3 vs. 22.8 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

The I-Pace has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Ariya doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The I-Pace’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Ariya’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

The I-Pace’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Ariya’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the I-Pace to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Ariya doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The I-Pace offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Ariya doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The I-Pace’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Ariya offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Jaguar I-Pace has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Ariya Evolve+/Empower+/Premiere/Platinum+ offers wireless charging.
