For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Jaguar I-Pace have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Jeep Grand Cherokee doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

Both the I-Pace and Grand Cherokee have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The I-Pace has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Grand Cherokee’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The I-Pace’s standard pretensioning seatbelts also sense rear collisions and remove slack from the seatbelts to help protect the occupants from whiplash and other injuries. The Grand Cherokee doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the I-Pace. But it costs extra on the Grand Cherokee.

Both the I-Pace and the Grand Cherokee have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The I-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Grand Cherokee’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

The I-Pace’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Grand Cherokee’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the I-Pace for 2 years longer than Jeep pays for maintenance for the Grand Cherokee (5 years vs. 3 years).

The I-Pace’s electric motors produces 101 more horsepower (394 vs. 293) and 252 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 260) than the Grand Cherokee’s standard 3.6 DOHC V6. The I-Pace’s electric motors produces 37 more horsepower (394 vs. 357) and 122 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 390) than the Grand Cherokee’s optional 5.7 V8. The I-Pace’s electric motors produces 19 more horsepower (394 vs. 375) and 42 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 470) than the Grand Cherokee 4xe’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid.

The I-Pace can travel with zero emissions on a full charge for 217 to 246 miles. The Grand Cherokee 4xe has to start its internal combustion engine after only 26 miles.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jaguar I-Pace higher (10 out of 10) than the Jeep Grand Cherokee (5 to 7). This means the I-Pace produces up to 19.8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Grand Cherokee every 15,000 miles.

The I-Pace stops much shorter than the Grand Cherokee:

The I-Pace’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Grand Cherokee Laredo’s standard 70 series tires. The I-Pace’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Grand Cherokee Summit’s optional 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the I-Pace has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Grand Cherokee Laredo. The I-Pace’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the Grand Cherokee Summit.

The front and rear suspension of the I-Pace uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Grand Cherokee, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The I-Pace’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the Grand Cherokee’s (52% to 48%). This gives the I-Pace more stable handling and braking.

The I-Pace HSE handles at .93 G’s, while the Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4 pulls only .60 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The I-Pace HSE executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 3.3 seconds quicker than the Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 (24.8 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 28.1 seconds @ .58 average G’s).

The I-Pace is 9.2 inches shorter than the Grand Cherokee, making the I-Pace easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The I-Pace is 9.5 inches shorter in height than the Grand Cherokee, making the I-Pace much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

The design of the Jaguar I-Pace amounts to more than styling. The I-Pace has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .29 Cd. That is significantly lower than the Grand Cherokee (.357) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the I-Pace get better fuel mileage.

The I-Pace’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Grand Cherokee’s standard rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

If the windows are left open on the I-Pace the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Grand Cherokee can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The I-Pace has a standard locking charge port door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage to the charging system. The Grand Cherokee doesn’t offer a locking fuel/charge port door.

The I-Pace’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Grand Cherokee’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the I-Pace to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Grand Cherokee doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The I-Pace offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Grand Cherokee doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Jaguar I-Pace has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Grand Cherokee.
