Both the F-Pace and Cherokee have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The F-Pace has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Cherokee’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the F-Pace. But it costs extra on the Cherokee.

The F-Pace offers an optional 3D Surround Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Cherokee only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

The F-Pace’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Cherokee doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the F-Pace and the Cherokee have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

The F-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Cherokee’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

The F-Pace’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Cherokee’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the F-Pace for 2 years longer than Jeep pays for maintenance for the Cherokee (5 years vs. 3 years).

Reliability

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the F-Pace has a standard 800-amp battery. The Cherokee’s 700-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

The battery on the F-Pace is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the F-Pace’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The Cherokee’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

The F-Pace has more powerful engines than the Cherokee:

Regenerative brakes improve the F-Pace’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Cherokee doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The F-Pace has 6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Cherokee (21.9 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the F-Pace’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Cherokee:

The F-Pace’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Cherokee are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the F-Pace has larger standard tires than the Cherokee (255/55R19 vs. 225/60R17). The F-Pace SVR’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Cherokee (F:265/45R21 & R:295/40R21 vs. 245/65R17).

The F-Pace’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Cherokee Latitude LUX 4x4’s standard 65 series tires. The F-Pace SVR’s optional 265/40R22 front and 295/35R22 rear tires have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile than the Cherokee Limited’s optional 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the F-Pace has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Cherokee Latitude LUX. The F-Pace’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels optional on the Cherokee Limited.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the F-Pace can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Cherokee doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

Suspension and Handling

The F-Pace offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Cherokee’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the F-Pace’s wheelbase is 6.6 inches longer than on the Cherokee (113.1 inches vs. 106.5 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the F-Pace is 1.6 inches wider in the front and 1.9 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Cherokee.

The F-Pace’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the Cherokee’s (57% to 43%). This gives the F-Pace more stable handling and braking.

The F-Pace SVR handles at .89 G’s, while the Cherokee Limited 4x4 pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The F-Pace SVR executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 3.6 seconds quicker than the Cherokee Trailhawk 4x4 (25 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 28.6 seconds @ .57 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the F-Pace has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Cherokee (8.4 vs. 7.9 inches), allowing the F-Pace to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The F-Pace uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Cherokee doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The F-Pace has .3 inches more front headroom, .1 inches more front shoulder room and .7 inches more rear shoulder room than the Cherokee.

Cargo Capacity

The F-Pace has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Cherokee with its rear seat up (32.1 vs. 27.6 cubic feet). The F-Pace has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Cherokee with its rear seat folded (70.4 vs. 54.7 cubic feet).

The F-Pace’s cargo area is larger than the Cherokee’s in almost every dimension:

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the F-Pace S/R-Dynamic/SVR’s optional rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Cherokee doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Payload and Towing

The F-Pace’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Cherokee’s (5291 vs. 2000 pounds).

The F-Pace has a much higher standard payload capacity than the Cherokee (1510 vs. 1000 lbs.).

Servicing Ease

The engine in the F-Pace is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the Cherokee. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because there are no rear spark plugs and the accessory belts are in front.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional in the Cherokee (except X/Latitude), the F-Pace (except Base) offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The F-Pace (except Base)’s optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Cherokee doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The F-Pace S/R-Dynamic/SVR offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, warning and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Cherokee doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The F-Pace’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Cherokee’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

If the windows are left open on the F-Pace the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Cherokee can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the F-Pace to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Cherokee doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

When the F-Pace is put in reverse, the passenger rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The Cherokee’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.

The F-Pace’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Cherokee offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The F-Pace (except Base) offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Cherokee.

The F-Pace has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning is only available on the Cherokee Latitude Lux/Limited/Trailhawk.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Jaguar F-Pace has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Cherokee doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
