For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Jaguar E-Pace have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Jeep Grand Cherokee doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

Both the E-Pace and Grand Cherokee have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The E-Pace has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Grand Cherokee’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the E-Pace deploy with different levels of force to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The E-Pace’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The Grand Cherokee’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the E-Pace. But it costs extra on the Grand Cherokee.

Both the E-Pace and the Grand Cherokee have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The E-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Grand Cherokee’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

The E-Pace’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Grand Cherokee’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the E-Pace for 2 years longer than Jeep pays for maintenance for the Grand Cherokee (5 years vs. 3 years).

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the E-Pace has an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the 5.7 V8 in the Grand Cherokee.

The E-Pace’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 9 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 260) than the Grand Cherokee’s standard 3.6 DOHC V6.

On the EPA test cycle the E-Pace gets better mileage than the Grand Cherokee running its gasoline engine:

Both the E-Pace and the Grand Cherokee V6/4xe have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. All E-Paces have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily. A disable switch for start/stop is only offered on the Grand Cherokee V6.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jaguar E-Pace higher (7 out of 10) than the Jeep Grand Cherokee (5 to 7). This means the E-Pace produces up to 8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Grand Cherokee every 15,000 miles.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Jaguar E-Pace, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Grand Cherokee.

The E-Pace stops shorter than the Grand Cherokee:

The E-Pace’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Grand Cherokee Laredo’s standard 70 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the E-Pace has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Grand Cherokee Laredo.

The E-Pace SE handles at .80 G’s, while the Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4 pulls only .60 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Jaguar E-Pace may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 1600 pounds less than the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The E-Pace is 1 foot, 8.5 inches shorter than the Grand Cherokee, making the E-Pace easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Jaguar E-Pace amounts to more than styling. The E-Pace has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .33 Cd. That is lower than the Grand Cherokee (.357) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the E-Pace get better fuel mileage.

The E-Pace’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Grand Cherokee’s (3968 vs. 3500 pounds).

The E-Pace’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Grand Cherokee’s standard rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

On a hot day the E-Pace’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Grand Cherokee can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The E-Pace’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Grand Cherokee’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the E-Pace to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Grand Cherokee doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Jaguar E-Pace has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Grand Cherokee.
