Compare the2023 Infiniti QX50VS 2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX50 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the QX50 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Stelvio doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The QX50 has standard Rear Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Stelvio doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The QX50 Sport/Sensory/Autograph has a standard Around View® Monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Stelvio only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the QX50 and the Stelvio have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available all wheel drive.

The QX50 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Stelvio’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 10,000 miles sooner.

Infiniti’s powertrain warranty covers the QX50 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Alfa Romeo covers the Stelvio. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Stelvio ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The QX50’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Stelvio’s (7 vs. 5 years).

Infiniti pays for scheduled maintenance on the QX50 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Infiniti will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Alfa Romeo only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Stelvio.

There are over 46 percent more Infiniti dealers than there are Alfa Romeo dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the QX50’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the QX50’s reliability 31 points higher than the Stelvio.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Infiniti vehicles are better in initial quality than Alfa Romeo vehicles. With 7 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Infiniti higher than Alfa Romeo.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Infiniti vehicles are more reliable than Alfa Romeo With 17 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Infiniti higher than Alfa Romeo.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Infiniti vehicles are more reliable than Alfa Romeo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Infiniti 18 places higher in reliability than Alfa Romeo.

On the EPA test cycle the QX50 FWD gets better fuel mileage than the Stelvio RWD (23 city/29 hwy vs. 22 city/29 hwy).

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Infiniti QX50 higher (6 out of 10) than the Alfa Romeo Stelvio (5). This means the QX50 produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Stelvio every 15,000 miles.

The QX50 has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Stelvio doesn’t offer a CVT.

The QX50 stops shorter than the Stelvio:

The QX50’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Stelvio Sprint’s standard 60 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the QX50 has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Stelvio Sprint.

The QX50 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Stelvio doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the QX50 can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. Run-flat tires aren’t available on some tire packages on the Stelvio.

The QX50 AWD handles at .84 G’s, while the Stelvio Ti AWD pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the QX50’s turning circle is 2.1 feet tighter than the Stelvio’s (36.4 feet vs. 38.5 feet).

For greater off-road capability the QX50 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Stelvio (8.6 vs. 8.1 inches), allowing the QX50 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The QX50 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Stelvio doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The QX50 has 6.8 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Stelvio (104.4 vs. 97.6).

The QX50 has .8 inches more front headroom, 3 inches more front legroom, .4 inches more front shoulder room, .2 inches more rear headroom, 6.8 inches more rear legroom and 1.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the Stelvio.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the QX50’s rear seats recline. The Stelvio’s rear seats don’t recline.

The QX50 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Stelvio with its rear seat up (31.4 vs. 18.5 cubic feet). The QX50 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Stelvio with its rear seat folded (65.1 vs. 56.5 cubic feet).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the QX50 easier. The QX50’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 26.6 inches, while the Stelvio’s liftover is 28.5 inches.

The QX50’s cargo area is larger than the Stelvio’s in almost every dimension:

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Infiniti service is better than Alfa Romeo. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti 9th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 61% lower rating, Alfa Romeo is ranked 32nd.

The QX50 Sensory/Autograph has a standard heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Stelvio doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

If the windows are left open on the QX50 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Stelvio can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The QX50’s LED headlights produce a white, bright light using less electricity than the Stelvio’s xenon high intensity discharge (HID) headlights. HID headlights can be slow to reach full brightness or power cycle, causing issues when flashing them to signal other vehicles; LED headlights light instantly. LED lights also last about three to four times as long.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the QX50 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Stelvio doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

When the QX50 Luxe/Sport/Sensory/Autograph is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Stelvio’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the QX50 Sport/Sensory/Autograph keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Stelvio doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Infiniti QX50, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio isn't recommended.
