For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Chevrolet Silverado Limited doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the Hummer EV Pickup and Silverado Limited have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Hummer EV Pickup has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Silverado Limited’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Hummer EV Pickup has standard Reverse Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Silverado Limited doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Hummer EV Pickup. But it costs extra on the Silverado Limited.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Silverado Limited and is only available on Silverado Limited LTZ/High Country.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Hummer EV Pickup has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the Silverado Limited and isn't available on the not available.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Silverado Limited doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Hummer EV Pickup and the Silverado Limited have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup weighs 3476 to 4496 pounds more than the Chevrolet Silverado Limited. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Reliability

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that GMC vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks GMC 1 place higher in reliability than Chevrolet.

Engine

The Hummer EV Pickup’s electric motors produces 690 more horsepower (1000 vs. 310) and 11152 lbs.-ft. more torque (11500 vs. 348) than the Silverado Limited’s standard 2.7 turbo 4-cylinder. The Hummer EV Pickup’s electric motors produces 645 more horsepower (1000 vs. 355) and 11117 lbs.-ft. more torque (11500 vs. 383) than the Silverado Limited’s optional 5.3 V8. The Hummer EV Pickup’s electric motors produces 580 more horsepower (1000 vs. 420) and 11040 lbs.-ft. more torque (11500 vs. 460) than the Silverado Limited’s optional 6.2 V8.

As tested in Motor Trend the GMC Hummer EV Pickup is faster than the Chevrolet Silverado Limited:

The Hummer EV Pickup can travel with zero emissions for 329 miles. The Silverado Limited can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Hummer EV Pickup’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Silverado Limited doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the GMC Hummer EV Pickup higher (10 out of 10) than the Chevrolet Silverado Limited (3 to 6). This means the Hummer EV Pickup produces up to 36.3 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Silverado Limited every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

The Hummer EV Pickup’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Silverado Limited doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Hummer EV Pickup’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Silverado Limited:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Hummer EV Pickup has larger tires than the Silverado Limited (305/70R18 vs. 255/70R17). The Hummer EV Pickup’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Silverado Limited (305/70R18 vs. 275/60R20).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Hummer EV Pickup has standard 18-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Silverado Limited.

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup’s wheels have 8 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Chevrolet Silverado Limited only has 6 wheel lugs per wheel.

Suspension and Handling

For superior ride and handling, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Chevrolet Silverado Limited has a solid rear axle, with a non-independent rear suspension.

The Hummer EV Pickup has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Hummer EV Pickup flat and controlled during cornering. The Silverado Limited’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The front and rear suspension of the Hummer EV Pickup uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Silverado Limited, which uses coil springs in front and leaf springs in the rear. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Hummer EV Pickup has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Hummer EV Pickup’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Silverado Limited doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the Silverado Limited’s (57.4% to 42.6%). This gives the Hummer EV Pickup more stable handling and braking.

For better maneuverability, the Hummer EV Pickup’s turning circle is 7.5 feet tighter than the Silverado 1500 Limited Long Bed Regular Cab’s (37.1 feet vs. 44.6 feet). The Hummer EV Pickup’s turning circle is 12.4 feet tighter than the Silverado 1500 Limited Standard Bed Crew Cab’s (37.1 feet vs. 49.5 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Hummer EV Pickup has a 7.9 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Silverado 1500 Limited Standard Bed Crew Cab (15.9 vs. 8 inches), allowing the Hummer EV Pickup to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Hummer EV Pickup’s minimum ground clearance is 5 inches higher than on the Silverado 1500 Limited Short Bed Crew Cab Lifted (15.9 vs. 10.9 inches).

Chassis

The Hummer EV Pickup is 1 foot, 2.9 inches shorter than the Silverado 1500 Limited Short Bed Crew Cab, making the Hummer EV Pickup easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Hummer EV Pickup uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Silverado Limited doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Cargo Capacity

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup has a standard EZ Lift Tailgate, which prevents the heavy tailgate from falling with a crash and causing injury. It allows adults and children to easily open and close the tailgate with one hand to better facilitate loading and unloading. Tailgate assist costs extra on the Chevrolet Silverado Limited.

Towing

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Silverado Limited’s (7500 vs. 7400 pounds).

Ergonomics

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard power windows allow the driver or passenger to lower and raise the windows without leaning over or being distracted. Power windows cost extra on the Silverado Limited.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard power locks allow the driver or passenger to lock or unlock all the doors at a touch without leaning over, or reaching to the back seat. Power locks cost extra on the Silverado Limited.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Silverado Limited’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the Silverado Limited’s standard halogen headlights. LED lights also light instantly and last over twenty times longer than halogen.

The Hummer EV Pickup has standard power remote mirrors. The Silverado Limited only comes with remote mirrors at extra cost. Without them the driver will have to roll down the windows and reach across the car to adjust the mirrors.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Chevrolet charges extra for heated mirrors on the Silverado Limited.

The Hummer EV Pickup has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Silverado Limited LT/RST/LTZ/High Country.

The Hummer EV Pickup has a standard center folding armrest for the driver and front passenger. A center armrest helps combat driver fatigue. The Silverado Limited Work Truck doesn’t offer a front seat center armrest.

The Hummer EV Pickup has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning is only available on the Silverado Limited LT/RST/LTZ/High Country.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Silverado Limited and isn’t available on the Silverado Limited WT/Custom/LT/RST.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Silverado Limited doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
