Compare the2023 Toyota Rav4 PrimeVS 2022 Jaguar I-Pace

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Toyota Rav4 Prime are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar I-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Toyota Rav4 Prime has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Rav4 Prime has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Rav4 Prime XSE offers optional Parking Assist with Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the Rav4 Prime and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Rav4 Prime its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 101 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The I-Pace has not been tested, yet.

There are almost 7 times as many Toyota dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Rav4 Prime’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Rav4 Prime’s reliability 58 points higher than the I-Pace.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota above average in initial quality. With 38 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota above average in long-term dependability. With 34 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Jaguar is rated below average.

On the EPA test cycle the Rav4 Prime running on electricity gets better mileage than the I-Pace (105 city/84 hwy vs. 80 city/72 hwy MPGe).

The Rav4 Prime’s maximum EPA estimated range on a full tank and a full charge is 622 miles, after which it can be refueled at any gas station in minutes. The I-Pace’s range is only 222 miles, after which the minimum time to recharge is 15 minutes for only a 28% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a professionally installed 220-volt charging station can take up to 12 hours and 54 minutes.

For better maneuverability, the Rav4 Prime SE’s turning circle is 4.4 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (36.1 feet vs. 40.5 feet). The Rav4 Prime XSE’s turning circle is 3.1 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (37.4 feet vs. 40.5 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Rav4 Prime SE has a greater minimum ground clearance than the I-Pace (8 vs. 7.8 inches), allowing the Rav4 Prime to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Rav4 Prime XSE’s minimum ground clearance is .4 inch higher than on the I-Pace (8.2 vs. 7.8 inches).

The Toyota Rav4 Prime may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 500 to 550 pounds less than the Jaguar I-Pace.

The Rav4 Prime is 3.4 inches shorter than the I-Pace, making the Rav4 Prime easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Rav4 Prime has .1 inches more front legroom, .2 inches more front shoulder room, 1.4 inches more rear headroom, 2.8 inches more rear legroom and 1.8 inches more rear shoulder room than the I-Pace.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Rav4 Prime’s rear seats recline. The I-Pace’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Rav4 Prime has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the I-Pace with its rear seat up (33.5 vs. 25.3 cubic feet). The Rav4 Prime has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the I-Pace with its rear seat folded (69.8 vs. 53.6 cubic feet).

The Rav4 Prime’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the I-Pace’s (2500 vs. 1653 pounds).

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Rav4 Prime uses the Vehicle Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The I-Pace doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Rav4 Prime has a standard rear wiper. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Rav4 Prime XSE offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The I-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The Rav4 Prime XSE offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Toyota Rav4 Prime, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Jaguar I-Pace isn't recommended.
