In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the G90 are reminded to check the back seat when a sensor determines the back seat is occupied. The A7 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The G90 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The A7 doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

The G90 has standard Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The A7 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The G90 offers an optional Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist-Reverse that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The A7 doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

The G90 has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the A7’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the G90 has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist and automatically engage the brakes. Audi charges extra for Rear Cross-Traffic Assist on the A7.

The G90’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The A7 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the G90 and the A7 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and rearview cameras.

For its performance in IIHS driver-side and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, updated side impact, headlight, daytime pedestrian crash prevention, and nighttime pedestrian crash prevention testing, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the G90 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2023, a rating granted to only 29 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The A7 has not been fully tested, yet.

The G90 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The A7’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the G90 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Audi covers the A7. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the A7 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the G90 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Audi only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the A7.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis fourth in initial quality, above the industry average. With 83 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is ranked 31st, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 77 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is ranked 25th.

The G90 3.5T’s standard 3.5 turbo V6 produces 40 more horsepower (375 vs. 335) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 369) than the A7’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid. The G90 3.5T e-SC’s standard 3.5 turbo/supercharged V6 hybrid produces 74 more horsepower (409 vs. 335) and 36 lbs.-ft. more torque (405 vs. 369) than the A7’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Genesis G90 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The A7 requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Genesis G90, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the A7.

For better stopping power the G90’s brake rotors are larger than those on the A7:

For better traction and acceleration, the G90 has larger rear tires than the A7 (275/40R20 vs. 255/40R20).

The G90 has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The A7’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The G90 3.5T has a standard automatic load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The A7 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the G90’s wheelbase is 10 inches longer than on the A7 (125.2 inches vs. 115.2 inches).

The G90’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50.6% to 49.4%) than the A7’s (53.9% to 46.1%). This gives the G90 more stable handling and braking.

For better maneuverability, the G90 3.5T e-SC’s turning circle is 2.6 feet tighter than the A7’s (37.1 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

The design of the Genesis G90 amounts to more than styling. The G90 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .27 Cd. That is significantly lower than the A7 (.31) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the G90 get better fuel mileage.

The G90 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The A7 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the G90 3.5T e-SC is quieter than the A7 55 TFSI Prestige:

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the G90 a Large car, while the A7 is rated a Mid-size.

The G90 has 14.2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the A7 (109.2 vs. 95).

The G90 has 2.4 inches more front headroom, 1 inch more front legroom, 1.9 inches more front shoulder room, .9 inches more rear headroom, .8 inches more rear legroom and 2 inches more rear shoulder room than the A7.

With its sedan body style and remote trunk release lockout, the G90 offers cargo security. The A7’s hatchback body style, non-lockable folding seat and non-lockable remote release defeat cargo security.

The G90 has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The A7 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The G90’s optional power side swing out doors make it much easier to load and unload kids and cargo. One touch opens the door, before you even get to the car. The A7 doesn’t offer a power rear door.

The G90’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The A7’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

A power rear sunshade and rear side window sunshades are standard in the G90 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The A7 doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

The G90 has standard front air conditioned seats and the G90 3.5T e-SC also has them in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The A7 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The G90 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the A7.

The G90 has standard massaging front seats. Massaging front seats cost extra on the A7, and are only available on the A7 Prestige. The G90 3.5T e-SC also has standard massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the A7.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Genesis G90 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console and one for the rear passengers. Wireless charging costs extra on the A7.
