Safety

The F8 has standard four wheel antilock disc brakes for quicker stops and controlled steering ability, especially under poor traction conditions. Antilock brakes cost extra on the Mercedes AMG SL.

Both the F8 and the AMG SL have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and available rearview cameras.

Warranty

The F8 comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The AMG SL’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Ferrari pays for scheduled maintenance on the F8 for 7 years and unlimited miles. Ferrari will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the AMG SL.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the F8’s turning circle is 3.4 feet tighter than the AMG SL’s (38.7 feet vs. 42.1 feet).

Chassis

The F8 is 3.7 inches shorter than the AMG SL, making the F8 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The F8’s standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The AMG SL doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

Model Availability

The Ferrari F8 comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Mercedes AMG SL isn’t available as a coupe.

Recommendations

The F8 was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2016. The AMG SL has never been an “All Star.”
