The R8 Quattro/GT offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The LC doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Both the R8 and the LC have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The R8’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the LC’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 25 percent more Audi dealers than there are Lexus dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the R8’s warranty.

The R8 RWD Performance’s standard 5.2 DOHC V10 produces 208 more horsepower (562 vs. 354) and 56 lbs.-ft. more torque (406 vs. 350) than the LC 500h’s standard 3.5 DOHC V6 hybrid. The R8 RWD Performance’s 5.2 DOHC V10 produces 91 more horsepower (562 vs. 471) and 8 lbs.-ft. more torque (406 vs. 398) than the LC 500’s standard 5.0 DOHC V8. The R8 Quattro/GT’s standard 5.2 DOHC V10 produces 131 more horsepower (602 vs. 471) and 15 lbs.-ft. more torque (413 vs. 398) than the LC 500’s standard 5.0 DOHC V8.

Regardless of its engine, the R8’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. Lexus only offers an automatic engine start/stop system on the LC Hybrid.

The R8 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The LC doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The R8 offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The LC doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

All wheel drive, available in the R8, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Lexus LC is not available with all wheel drive.

The R8’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The LC doesn’t offer launch control.

The R8 offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The LC doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For better traction and acceleration, the R8 has larger rear tires than the LC (305/30R20 vs. 275/40R20).

The R8’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the LC’s standard 45 series front and 40 series rear tires. The R8’s tires are lower profile than the LC’s optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

The Audi R8 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 650 to 900 pounds less than the Lexus LC.

The R8 is 1 foot, 1 inches shorter than the LC, making the R8 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The R8 Spyder has a larger trunk with its top down than the LC Convertible (4 vs. 3.4 cubic feet).

The R8 has a standard under hood light to help in making nighttime maintenance checks, adding fluids, etc. The LC doesn’t offer an under hood light.

On a hot day the R8 has a standard remote opening feature, to lower the top from outside. The LC doesn’t offer a remote top, so the driver will have to enter the car, turn the ignition on and lower the top.

Laser headlights, standard on the R8 Quattro, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the LC’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

When the R8 is put in reverse, the passenger rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The LC’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Audi R8 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The LC doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The R8 will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the R8 will retain 49.92% to 50.89% of its original price after five years, while the LC only retains 46.02% to 48.14%.
