The Audi R8 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. The R8 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The F-Type doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The R8 RWD Performance’s standard 5.2 DOHC V10 produces 118 more horsepower (562 vs. 444) than the F-Type P450’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8. The R8 Quattro/GT’s standard 5.2 DOHC V10 produces 27 more horsepower (602 vs. 575) than the F-Type R’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8.

The R8 Spyder’s standard fuel tank has 2.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the F-Type (21.1 vs. 18.5 gallons).

The R8 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The F-Type doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The R8 offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The F-Type doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The R8 offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The F-Type doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For better traction and acceleration, the R8 has larger rear tires than the F-Type (305/30R20 vs. 295/30R20).

The R8’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the F-Type’s standard 35 series front tires.

On a hot day the R8 has a standard remote opening feature, to lower the top from outside. The F-Type doesn’t offer a remote top, so the driver will have to enter the car, turn the ignition on and lower the top.

Laser headlights, standard on the R8 Quattro, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the F-Type’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the R8 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The F-Type doesn’t offer cornering lights.

With standard voice command, the R8 offers the driver hands free control of the radio and the navigation computer by simply speaking. The F-Type doesn’t offer a voice control system.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Audi R8 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The F-Type doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The R8 will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the R8 will retain 49.92% to 50.89% of its original price after five years, while the F-Type only retains 40.46% to 41.13%.
