The V60’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Volvo V60 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The V60 has a standard Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), which use a specially designed seat to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the WHIPS allows the backrest to travel backwards to cushion the occupants and the headrests move forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. At the same time the pretensioning seatbelts fire, removing slack from the belts. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The V60 has standard Post-impact braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The V60 has standard CTA Auto Brake that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The V60 has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Range Rover Evoque’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the V60 has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the Range Rover Evoque.

Both the V60 and the Range Rover Evoque have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and driver alert monitors.

The Volvo V60 weighs 420 to 560 pounds more than the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, with its optional vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the V60 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 95 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Range Rover Evoque has not been tested, yet.

Warranty

The V60’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the Range Rover Evoque’s (12 vs. 6 years).

Volvo pays for scheduled maintenance on the V60 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Volvo will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Land Rover only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Range Rover Evoque.

There are over 41 percent more Volvo dealers than there are Land Rover dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the V60’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Volvo vehicles are more reliable than Land Rover With 28 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Volvo higher than Land Rover.

Engine

The V60’s 2.0 turbo/supercharged 4-cylinder hybrid produces 209 more horsepower (455 vs. 246) and 254 lbs.-ft. more torque (523 vs. 269) than the Range Rover Evoque’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The V60’s 2.0 turbo/supercharged 4-cylinder hybrid produces 159 more horsepower (455 vs. 296) and 228 lbs.-ft. more torque (523 vs. 295) than the Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic HST’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

The V60 T8 Polestar Engineered Extended Range can travel with zero emissions for 41 miles. The Range Rover Evoque can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

The V60 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the V60’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Range Rover Evoque:

The V60’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Range Rover Evoque are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

The V60’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Range Rover Evoque’s standard 60 series tires. The V60’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Range Rover Evoque’s optional 45 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the V60’s wheelbase is 7.6 inches longer than on the Range Rover Evoque (113.1 inches vs. 105.5 inches).

For better maneuverability, the V60’s turning circle is .9 feet tighter than the Range Rover Evoque’s (37.1 feet vs. 38 feet).

Chassis

The V60 is 8.5 inches shorter in height than the Range Rover Evoque, making the V60 much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

The design of the Volvo V60 amounts to more than styling. The V60 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .29 Cd. That is significantly lower than the Range Rover Evoque (.33) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the V60 get better fuel mileage.

Passenger Space

The V60 has 2.3 inches more front legroom and 1.2 inches more rear legroom than the Range Rover Evoque.

Cargo Capacity

The V60 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Range Rover Evoque with its rear seat up (23.2 vs. 21.6 cubic feet). The V60 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Range Rover Evoque with its rear seat folded (60.5 vs. 50.5 cubic feet).

A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the V60 easier. The V60’s trunk lift-over height is 26.7 inches, while the Range Rover Evoque’s liftover is 28.7 inches.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the V60. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Ergonomics

The V60 has a standard locking fuel and charge port door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the V60 offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer cornering lights. The V60 also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The V60 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Range Rover Evoque.

Economic Advantages

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the V60 is less expensive to operate than the Range Rover Evoque because typical repairs cost much less on the V60 than the Range Rover Evoque, including $174 less for a muffler, $68 less for front brake pads, $131 less for a starter, $119 less for fuel injection, $382 less for front struts and $21 less for a timing belt/chain.
