Compare the2023 Lexus ISVS 2022 Jaguar XF

The IS’ optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The XF doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Lexus IS are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar XF doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Lexus IS has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The XF doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The IS has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The XF doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The IS offers optional Auto Rear Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The XF doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the IS and the XF have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the IS its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 96 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The XF has not been tested, yet.

Lexus’ powertrain warranty covers the IS 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Jaguar covers the XF. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the XF ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

There are over 27 percent more Lexus dealers than there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the IS’ warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the IS’ reliability 28 points higher than the XF.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the IS first among compact premium cars in their 2022 Initial Quality Study. The XF isn’t in the top three in its category.

Power ranks Lexus above average in initial quality. With 53 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lexus above average in long-term dependability. With 33 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Jaguar is rated below average.

The IS has more powerful engines than the XF:

For better maneuverability, the IS’ turning circle is 4 feet tighter than the XF’s (34.2 feet vs. 38.2 feet). The IS AWD’s turning circle is 2.8 feet tighter than the XF’s (35.4 feet vs. 38.2 feet).

The IS is 9.6 inches shorter than the XF, making the IS easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The IS is 5.6 inches narrower than the XF, making the IS easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The IS has .7 inches more front headroom and 3.3 inches more front legroom than the XF.

The IS has a larger trunk than the XF Sedan (10.8 vs. 10.1 cubic feet).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Lexus service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks Lexus first in service department satisfaction. With a 39% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 10th.

The IS’ instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The XF does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The IS has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The XF doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the IS offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The XF doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The IS will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the IS will retain 44.72% to 48.44% of its original price after five years, while the XF only retains 32.78% to 33.1%.
