Compare the2023 Audi Q8VS 2023 Genesis GV70

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Audi Q8 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Genesis GV70 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The Q8 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The GV70 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Q8 Prestige helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The GV70 doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Q8 and the GV70 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The Audi Q8 weighs 421 to 837 pounds more than the Genesis GV70. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Q8’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the GV70’s (12 vs. 7 years).

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2023 Auto Issue reports that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Audi 6 places higher in reliability than Genesis.

The Q8’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 35 more horsepower (335 vs. 300) and 58 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 311) than the GV70’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder.

Regenerative brakes improve the Q8’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The GV70 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Q8 has 5.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the GV70 (22.5 vs. 17.4 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the Q8’s brake rotors are larger than those on the GV70:

For better traction, the Q8 has larger tires than the GV70 (285/45R21 vs. 235/60R18). The Q8’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the GV70 (285/45R21 vs. 255/40R21).

The Q8’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the GV70’s 60 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Q8 has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the GV70. The Q8 Premium Plus/Prestige’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the GV70 Sport Prestige.

The Q8 has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The GV70 doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Q8’s wheelbase is 4.7 inches longer than on the GV70 (117.9 inches vs. 113.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Q8 is 1.3 inches wider in the front and 1.3 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the GV70.

The Q8 Prestige handles at .83 G’s, while the GV70 Sport Prestige pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Q8 has .3 inches more front legroom, .4 inches more front shoulder room, 3 inches more rear legroom and 1.6 inches more rear shoulder room than the GV70.

The Q8 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the GV70 with its rear seat up (30.5 vs. 28.9 cubic feet). The Q8 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the GV70 with its rear seat folded (60.7 vs. 56.9 cubic feet).

The Q8’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the GV70’s (7700 vs. 3500 pounds).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Audi service is better than Genesis. J.D. Power ranks Audi 8th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 29% lower rating, Genesis is ranked 23rd.

The Q8 has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The GV70 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the GV70 Select/Advanced/Sport/3.5T, the Q8 Prestige offers an optional passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

If the windows are left open on the Q8 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the GV70 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Q8 has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The GV70 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

A manual rear sunshade is optional in the Q8 and power rear side window sunshades are optional in the Q8 (except Premium) to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The GV70 doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.
