Compare the2023 Audi Q5VS 2022 Jaguar I-Pace

The Q5’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The I-Pace doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Audi Q5 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar I-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Q5 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Q5’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The I-Pace doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Both the Q5 and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Q5 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 92 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The I-Pace has not been tested, yet.

The Q5’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the I-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 60 percent more Audi dealers than there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Q5’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Q5’s reliability 40 points higher than the I-Pace.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar With 1 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Audi higher than Jaguar.

The Q5 55 TFSI e’s maximum EPA estimated range on a full tank and a full charge is 408 miles, after which it can be refueled at any gas station in minutes. The I-Pace’s range is only 222 miles, after which the minimum time to recharge is 15 minutes for only a 28% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a professionally installed 220-volt charging station can take up to 12 hours and 54 minutes.

The Q5 stops shorter than the I-Pace:

For better maneuverability, the Q5 40/45 TFSI’s turning circle is 1.8 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (38.7 feet vs. 40.5 feet). The Q5 55 TFSI e’s turning circle is 1.1 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (39.4 feet vs. 40.5 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Q5 55 TFSI e has a greater minimum ground clearance than the I-Pace (8 vs. 7.8 inches), allowing the Q5 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Q5 45 TFSI’s minimum ground clearance is .4 inch higher than on the I-Pace (8.2 vs. 7.8 inches).

The Audi Q5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 150 to 700 pounds less than the Jaguar I-Pace.

The Q5 has .1 inches more front shoulder room, 1.2 inches more rear headroom, 3 inches more rear legroom and 1.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the I-Pace.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Q5’s rear seats recline. The I-Pace’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Q5 has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the I-Pace with its rear seat up (25.8 vs. 25.3 cubic feet). The Q5 has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the I-Pace with its rear seat folded (54 vs. 53.6 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the Q5’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The I-Pace doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The Q5’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the I-Pace’s (4400 vs. 1653 pounds).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Audi service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks Audi 8th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 7% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 10th.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Q5 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the I-Pace.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Q5 has a standard rear wiper. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Q5 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The I-Pace doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Insurance will cost less for the Q5 owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Q5 will cost $2515 to $4615 less than the I-Pace over a five-year period.

The Q5 will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Q5 will retain 48.77% to 50.66% of its original price after five years, while the I-Pace only retains 42.74%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Audi Q5 will be $8075 to $19735 less than for the Jaguar I-Pace.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Audi Q5, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Jaguar I-Pace isn't recommended.
