In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Titan XD are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The F-150 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Nissan Titan XD has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The F-150 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Titan XD. But it costs extra on the F-150.

The Titan XD’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the F-150.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Titan XD has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the F-150.

Both the Titan XD and the F-150 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, rearview cameras, available daytime running lights and around view monitors.

The Nissan Titan XD weighs 482 to 2732 pounds more than the Ford F-150. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Titan XD comes with a full 5-year/100,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The F-150’s 3-year basic warranty expires 2 years or 64000 miles sooner.

A hardened steel chain, with no maintenance needs, drives the camshafts in the Titan XD’s engine. A rubber cam drive belt that needs periodic replacement drives the F-150’s camshafts. If the F-150’s belt breaks, the engine could be severely damaged when the pistons hit the opened valves.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Titan XD has a standard 710-amp battery. The F-150’s 610-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Ford vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Nissan 9 places higher in reliability than Ford.

The Titan XD’s 5.6 DOHC V8 produces 110 more horsepower (400 vs. 290) and 148 lbs.-ft. more torque (413 vs. 265) than the F-150’s standard 3.3 DOHC V6. The Titan XD’s 5.6 DOHC V8 produces 75 more horsepower (400 vs. 325) and 13 lbs.-ft. more torque (413 vs. 400) than the F-150’s optional 2.7 turbo V6. The Titan XD’s 5.6 DOHC V8 produces 3 lbs.-ft. more torque (413 vs. 410) than the F-150’s optional 5.0 DOHC V8.

The Titan XD has 3 gallons more fuel capacity than the F-150 Regular/SuperCab’s standard fuel tank (26 vs. 23 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Titan XD has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Titan XD flat and controlled during cornering. The F-150’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The Titan XD has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The F-150 doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

The Titan XD Platinum Crew Cab handles at .74 G’s, while the F-150 5.5-foot Lariat SuperCrew 4x4 pulls only .72 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

To almost totally eliminate engine vibration in the passenger area, the Titan XD has an electronically controlled liquid-filled main engine mount. A computer-controlled electric current in the liquid changes its viscosity, allowing the mount to dampen the engine completely at all RPMs. The F-150 uses conventional solid rubber engine mounts.

The Titan XD Crew Cab has a much larger cargo box than the F-150 SuperCrew shortbed (59.6 vs. 52.8 cubic feet).

The Titan XD’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the F-150’s (10898 vs. 5000 pounds).

The Titan XD has a much higher standard payload capacity than the F-150 5.5-foot SuperCrew 4x4 (2240 vs. 1765 lbs.).

The Titan XD’s standard power windows allow the driver or passenger to lower and raise the windows without leaning over or being distracted. Power windows cost extra on the F-150.

The Titan XD’s front power windows open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The F-150’s basic optional power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them. The F-150 XLT/Lariat/King Ranch/Platinum’s rear windows don’t close automatically.

If the front windows are left open on the Titan XD the driver can close them at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the F-150 can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Titan XD’s standard power locks allow the driver or passenger to lock or unlock all the doors at a touch without leaning over, or reaching to the back seat. Power locks cost extra on the F-150.

When the Titan XD with available tilt-down mirrors is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The F-150’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

Bluetooth wireless connectivity is standard on the Titan XD, connecting the driver and passenger’s cell phones to the vehicle systems. This allows them to use the vehicle’s stereo and hand controls to place calls safely and easily. Bluetooth costs extra on the F-150.
