To maximize occupant safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Dodge Challenger have pretensioners to eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Toyota Supra doesn’t offer pretensioners.
The Challenger has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Supra doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.
The Challenger offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Supra doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.
Both the Challenger and the Supra have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available collision warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.
The Dodge Challenger weighs 441 to 1300 pounds more than the Toyota Supra. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.
