In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Tucson Hybrid are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Tucson Hybrid has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the Range Rover Evoque.

Both the Tucson Hybrid and the Range Rover Evoque have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Tucson Hybrid its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 92 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Range Rover Evoque has not been tested, yet.

The Tucson Hybrid comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Range Rover Evoque’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the Tucson Hybrid 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Land Rover covers the Range Rover Evoque. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Range Rover Evoque ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The Tucson Hybrid’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Range Rover Evoque’s (7 vs. 6 years).

Hyundai pays for scheduled maintenance on the Tucson Hybrid for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Hyundai will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Land Rover only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Range Rover Evoque.

There are over 4 times as many Hyundai dealers as there are Land Rover dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Tucson Hybrid’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Tucson Hybrid’s reliability 62 points higher than the Range Rover Evoque.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are better in initial quality than Land Rover vehicles. With 8 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Hyundai higher than Land Rover.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Tucson Hybrid’s wheelbase is 3 inches longer than on the Range Rover Evoque (108.5 inches vs. 105.5 inches).

The Tucson Hybrid Limited handles at .84 G’s, while the Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic HST pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Tucson Hybrid Limited executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.1 seconds quicker than the Range Rover Evoque SE (27.4 seconds @ .63 average G’s vs. 28.5 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

The Hyundai Tucson Hybrid may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 pounds less than the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque.

The front grille of the Tucson Hybrid uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Tucson Hybrid has 1.2 inches more front headroom, 1.4 inches more front legroom, 1 inch more front shoulder room, 1.2 inches more rear headroom, 7.3 inches more rear legroom and .6 inches more rear shoulder room than the Range Rover Evoque.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Tucson Hybrid’s rear seats recline. The Range Rover Evoque’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Tucson Hybrid has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Range Rover Evoque with its rear seat up (38.7 vs. 21.6 cubic feet). Pulling a handle automatically lowers the Tucson Hybrid’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The Tucson Hybrid’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Range Rover Evoque’s power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The Tucson Hybrid has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

Consumer Reports rated the Tucson Hybrid’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the Range Rover Evoque’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Tucson Hybrid has standard extendable sun visors. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Insurance will cost less for the Tucson Hybrid owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Tucson Hybrid will cost $910 to $3230 less than the Range Rover Evoque over a five-year period.

The Tucson Hybrid will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Tucson Hybrid will retain 48.97% to 49.88% of its original price after five years, while the Range Rover Evoque only retains 47.58% to 47.73%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid will be $21116 to $21303 less than for the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque.

Consumer Reports® chose the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid as its “Top Pick,” the highest scoring vehicle in its category, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque isn't recommended.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Tucson Hybrid third among compact suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Range Rover Evoque isn’t in the top three.
