The DBX has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Macan’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the DBX’s standard rear cross-path warning system uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The Macan doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

Both the DBX and the Macan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and rearview cameras.

The Aston Martin DBX weighs 540 to 977 pounds more than the Porsche Macan. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The DBX comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Macan’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

The DBX’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 281 more horsepower (542 vs. 261) and 221 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 295) than the Macan’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The DBX’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 167 more horsepower (542 vs. 375) and 133 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 383) than the Macan S’ standard 2.9 turbo V6. The DBX’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 108 more horsepower (542 vs. 434) and 111 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 405) than the Macan GTS’ standard 2.9 turbo V6.

As tested in Car and Driver the Aston Martin DBX is faster than the Porsche Macan turbo 4 cyl.:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the DBX’s fuel efficiency. The Macan doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The DBX has 5.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the Macan (22.5 vs. 17.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The DBX has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Macan doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Aston Martin DBX, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the Macan.

For better traction, the DBX has larger tires than the Macan (F:285/40R22 & R:325/35R22 vs. F:235/55R19 & R:255/50R19). The DBX’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Macan (F:285/40R22 & R:325/35R22 vs. F:265/40R21 & R:295/35R21).

The DBX’s standard 285/40R22 front and 325/35R22 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Macan’s standard 55 series front and 50 series rear tires. The DBX’s optional 285/35R23 front and 325/30R23 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the Macan’s optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the DBX has standard 22-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Macan. The DBX’s optional 23-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the Macan.

The DBX has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Macan doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the DBX uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Macan, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The DBX offers an available active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Porsche doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Macan.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the DBX’s wheelbase is 10 inches longer than on the Macan (120.5 inches vs. 110.5 inches).

The DBX’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (52.7% to 47.3%) than the Macan’s (55.7% to 44.3%). This gives the DBX more stable handling and braking.

The DBX handles at .92 G’s, while the Macan pulls only .89 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For greater off-road capability the DBX has a 1.4 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Macan (9.3 vs. 7.9 inches), allowing the DBX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The DBX’s minimum ground clearance is .4 inch higher than on the Macan (9.3 vs. 8.9 inches).

Flexibility is maximized at the game, campground or a drive-in theatre in the DBX when its optional tailgating rear seats are deployed, allowing people to sit facing out of the liftgate. (Do not use while vehicle is in motion.) The Macan doesn’t offer tailgating seats.

The DBX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Macan with its rear seat up (22.5 vs. 17.2 cubic feet). The DBX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Macan with its rear seat folded (54 vs. 52.9 cubic feet).

Pressing a button automatically lowers the DBX’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Macan doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the DBX’s available liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Macan doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The DBX’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Macan’s (5940 vs. 4409 pounds).

The DBX’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Macan.

If the windows are left open on the DBX the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Macan can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The DBX’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Macan’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the DBX’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Macan doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.
