For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Aston Martin DBX have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Dodge Durango SRT doesn’t offer pretensioners for its second-row seat belts.

The Aston Martin DBX has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Durango SRT doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the DBX’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Durango SRT doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

The DBX’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Durango SRT.

The DBX has a standard Birds-eye Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Durango SRT only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the DBX and the Durango SRT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The DBX comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Durango SRT’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

The DBX’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the Durango SRT’s (10 vs. 5 years).

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the DBX has an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the engine in the Durango SRT.

The DBX’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 67 more horsepower (542 vs. 475) and 46 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 470) than the Durango SRT’s 6.4 V8.

As tested in Car and Driver the Aston Martin DBX is faster than the Dodge Durango SRT:

On the EPA test cycle the DBX gets better fuel mileage than the Durango SRT (14 city/20 hwy vs. 13 city/19 hwy).

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the DBX’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. The Durango SRT doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The DBX has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Durango SRT doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Aston Martin DBX higher (3 out of 10) than the Dodge Durango SRT (1). This means the DBX produces up to 22.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Durango SRT every 15,000 miles.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Aston Martin DBX, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Durango SRT.

For better traction and acceleration, the DBX has larger rear tires than the Durango SRT (325/35R22 vs. 295/45R20).

The DBX’s standard 285/40R22 front and 325/35R22 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Durango SRT’s standard 45 series tires. The DBX’s optional 285/35R23 front and 325/30R23 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the Durango SRT’s 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the DBX has standard 22-inch wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the Durango SRT. The DBX offers optional 23-inch wheels.

The DBX has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Durango SRT doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the DBX uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Durango SRT, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The DBX offers an available active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Dodge doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Durango SRT.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the DBX is 2.4 inches wider in the front and .7 inches wider in the rear than on the Durango SRT.

The DBX handles at .92 G’s, while the Durango SRT pulls only .87 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The DBX executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.1 seconds quicker than the Durango SRT 392 (24.4 seconds @ .79 average G’s vs. 25.5 seconds @ .75 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the DBX has a 1.5 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Durango SRT (9.3 vs. 7.8 inches), allowing the DBX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Aston Martin DBX may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 450 pounds less than the Dodge Durango SRT.

The DBX is 6 inches shorter in height than the Durango SRT, making the DBX much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

The DBX has 1 inch more front headroom, 1.4 inches more front legroom, .2 inches more rear headroom and 2.3 inches more rear legroom than the Durango SRT.

Flexibility is maximized at the game, campground or a drive-in theatre in the DBX when its optional tailgating rear seats are deployed, allowing people to sit facing out of the liftgate. (Do not use while vehicle is in motion.) The Durango SRT doesn’t offer tailgating seats.

The DBX has a much larger cargo volume than the Durango SRT with its rear seat up (22.5 vs. 17.2 cubic feet).

Pressing a button automatically lowers the DBX’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Durango SRT doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the DBX’s available liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Durango SRT doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Durango SRT, the DBX has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The DBX’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The Durango SRT’s parking brake has to be released manually.

The DBX’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Durango SRT’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the DBX’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Durango SRT doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Aston Martin DBX offers an optional wireless phone charging system (Qi) for the front seat. The Durango SRT doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The DBX’s Auto Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The Durango SRT doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
