The Nissan Murano has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The GV70 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The Murano has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The GV70 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Compared to metal, the Murano’s plastic fuel tank can withstand harder, more intrusive impacts without leaking; this decreases the possibility of fire. The Genesis GV70 has a metal gas tank.

Both the Murano and the GV70 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

There are almost 4 times as many Nissan dealers as there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Murano’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Murano’s reliability 47 points higher than the GV70.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Murano first among midsize suvs in their 2022 Initial Quality Study. The GV70 was rated second in its category.

On the EPA test cycle the Murano gets better mileage than the GV70:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Nissan Murano uses regular unleaded gasoline. The GV70 requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Murano has 1.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the GV70 (19 vs. 17.4 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Murano has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The GV70 doesn’t offer a CVT.

The Murano stops shorter than the GV70:

The Murano has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The GV70 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Murano has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The GV70 doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

The Nissan Murano may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 400 pounds less than the Genesis GV70.

The front grille of the Murano uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The GV70 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the Murano Platinum AWD is quieter than the GV70 Sport Prestige (75 vs. 77 dB).

The Murano has 4.1 cubic feet more passenger volume than the GV70 (108.1 vs. 104).

The Murano has .3 inches more front headroom, .4 inches more front shoulder room, .7 inches more rear headroom, 1.5 inches more rear legroom and 2 inches more rear shoulder room than the GV70.

The front step up height for the Murano is 1.7 inches lower than the GV70 (15.8” vs. 17.5”). The Murano’s rear step up height is 2.2 inches lower than the GV70’s (15.1” vs. 17.3”).

The Murano has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the GV70 with its rear seat up (32.1 vs. 28.9 cubic feet). The Murano has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the GV70 with its rear seat folded (67 vs. 56.9 cubic feet).

The Murano’s cargo area is larger than the GV70’s in almost every dimension:

The Murano offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The GV70 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

If the front windows are left open on the Murano the driver can close them at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the GV70 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Murano is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The GV70 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
