Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The i7 has standard Active Park Distance Control that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The S90 doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.
Both the i7 and the S90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.
The BMW i7 weighs 1244 to 1727 pounds more than the Volvo S90. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.
