The BMW 7 Series has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The G80 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The 7 Series has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The G80 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the 7 Series xDrive’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The G80 doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Compared to metal, the 7 Series’ plastic fuel tank can withstand harder, more intrusive impacts without leaking; this decreases the possibility of fire. The Genesis G80 has a metal gas tank.

Both the 7 Series and the G80 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The 7 Series’ corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the G80’s (12 vs. 7 years).

There are over 14 percent more BMW dealers than there are Genesis dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the 7 Series’ warranty.

The 740i’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 75 more horsepower (375 vs. 300) and 87 lbs.-ft. more torque (398 vs. 311) than the G80’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder. The 740i’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 7 lbs.-ft. more torque (398 vs. 391) than the G80’s optional 3.5 turbo V6. The 760i’s standard 4.4 turbo V8 hybrid produces 161 more horsepower (536 vs. 375) and 162 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 391) than the G80’s optional 3.5 turbo V6.

On the EPA test cycle the 7 Series gets better mileage than the G80:

Regenerative brakes improve the 7 Series’ fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The G80 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The 7 Series has 2.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the G80 2.5T’s standard fuel tank (19.5 vs. 17.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The 7 Series’ standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the G80 2.5T are solid, not vented.

For better traction, the 7 Series has larger tires than the G80 (F:255/45R20 & R:285/40R20 vs. 245/50R18). The 7 Series’ tires are larger than the largest tires available on the G80 (F:255/45R20 & R:285/40R20 vs. F:245/45R19 & R:275/40R19).

The 7 Series’ standard 255/45R20 front and 285/40R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the G80’s standard 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the 7 Series has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the G80. The 7 Series’ optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the G80.

The 7 Series 760i offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The G80 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the 7 Series uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the G80, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The 760i offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Genesis doesn’t offer an active suspension on the G80.

The 7 Series has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The 7 Series’ height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The G80 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the 7 Series’ wheelbase is 8.1 inches longer than on the G80 (126.6 inches vs. 118.5 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the 7 Series is 1.3 inches wider in the front than the average track on the G80.

The front grille of the 7 Series uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The G80 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The 7 Series has 2.7 inches more front shoulder room, .5 inches more rear headroom and 4.6 inches more rear legroom than the G80.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the 7 Series’ available rear seats recline. The G80’s rear seats don’t recline.

The 7 Series has a larger trunk than the G80 (13.7 vs. 13.1 cubic feet).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that BMW service is better than Genesis. J.D. Power ranks BMW 7th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 30% lower rating, Genesis is ranked 23rd.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the G80, the 7 Series has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The 7 Series’ instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The G80 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the 7 Series has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The G80 doesn’t offer cornering lights. The 7 Series also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the 7 Series’ passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The G80 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The 7 Series has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the G80.

Both the 7 Series and the G80 offer optional massaging front seats. The 7 Series also offers optional massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the G80.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the BMW 7 Series has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console and one for the rear passengers. Wireless charging costs extra on the G80.

The BMW 7 Series outsold the Genesis G80 by 53% during the 2021 model year.
