2022 BMW iX2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV

Safety

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Chevrolet Bolt EUV are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW iX doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Bolt EUV are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The iX doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the Bolt EUV and the iX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Bolt EUV 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than BMW covers the iX. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the iX ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 8 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are BMW dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Bolt EUV’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than BMW vehicles. J.D. J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in long-term dependability. With 21 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, BMW is rated lower.

Tires and Wheels

The Bolt EUV’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the iX’s standard 60 series tires.

The Bolt EUV has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The iX doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires standard on the Bolt EUV can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The iX doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the Bolt EUV’s turning circle is 2.1 feet tighter than the iX M60’s (38.3 feet vs. 40.4 feet). The Bolt EUV’s turning circle is 4.5 feet tighter than the iX xDrive50’s (38.3 feet vs. 42.8 feet).

Chassis

The Chevrolet Bolt EUV may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 2000 to 2050 pounds less than the BMW iX.

The Bolt EUV is 2 feet, 1.5 inches shorter than the iX, making the Bolt EUV easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Bolt EUV is 7.7 inches narrower than the iX, making the Bolt EUV easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Passenger Space

The Bolt EUV has 4.1 inches more front legroom and .2 inches more rear legroom than the iX.

Ergonomics

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Bolt EUV has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the iX only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Bolt EUV has standard extendable sun visors. The iX doesn’t offer extendable visors.
