Compare the2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUVVS 2022 Porsche Taycan

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Bolt EUV are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Taycan doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the Bolt EUV and the Taycan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Bolt EUV 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Porsche covers the Taycan. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Taycan ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 15 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Bolt EUV’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Porsche vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 53 more problems per 100 vehicles, Porsche is ranked 24th, below the industry average.

The Bolt EUV’s electric motor produces 12 lbs.-ft. more torque (266 vs. 254) than the Taycan’s standard electric motor. The Bolt EUV’s electric motor produces 3 lbs.-ft. more torque (266 vs. 263) than the Taycan Performance Plus’ optional electric motor.

The Bolt EUV’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Taycan’s standard 55 series front tires.

The Bolt EUV has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Taycan doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires standard on the Bolt EUV can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Taycan doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

The Chevrolet Bolt EUV may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 900 to 1500 pounds less than the Porsche Taycan.

The Bolt EUV is 2 feet, 2.3 inches shorter than the Taycan Cross Turismo, making the Bolt EUV easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

For excellent aerodynamics, the Bolt EUV has standard flush composite headlights. The Taycan has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The Bolt EUV has 8.5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Taycan (96.5 vs. 88).

The Bolt EUV has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Taycan Cross Turismo with its rear seat folded (56.9 vs. 45.7 cubic feet).

On a hot day the Bolt EUV’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Taycan can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Bolt EUV’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Taycan’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Bolt EUV has a standard rear wiper. The Taycan doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Bolt EUV has standard extendable sun visors. The Taycan doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Chevrolet Bolt outsold the Porsche Taycan by almost four to one during the 2021 model year.
