In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the CT5 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The G90 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the CT5 and the G90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

There are over 83 percent more Cadillac dealers than there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the CT5’s warranty.

The CT5’s optional 3.0 turbo V6 produces 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (405 vs. 383) than the G90 5.0’s standard 5.0 DOHC V8.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the CT5’s fuel efficiency. The G90 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the CT5’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The G90 doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The CT5 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The G90 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Cadillac CT5 higher (5 to 7 out of 10) than the Genesis G90 (3 to 5). This means the CT5 produces up to 24.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the G90 every 15,000 miles.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Cadillac CT5, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the G90.

The CT5 stops much shorter than the G90:

For better traction, the CT5’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the G90 (255/35R20 vs. 245/45R19).

The CT5’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the G90’s 45 series front and 40 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the CT5 offers optional 20-inch wheels. The G90’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The CT5 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The G90 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the CT5 can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The G90 doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

The CT5 Sport handles at .88 G’s, while the G90 3.3T AWD pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The CT5 Sport executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the G90 3.3T AWD (26.2 seconds @ .68 average G’s vs. 26.9 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

The Cadillac CT5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 950 to 1100 pounds less than the Genesis G90.

The CT5 is 11.1 inches shorter than the G90, making the CT5 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the CT5 (except Premium Luxury/Sport) uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The G90 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The CT5’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The G90 doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.

The CT5 has a 1000 lbs. towing capacity. The G90 has no towing capacity.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Cadillac service is better than Genesis. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac second in service department satisfaction. With a 44% lower rating, Genesis is ranked 23rd.

The CT5’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The G90 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

On a hot day the CT5’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the G90 can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The CT5 Premium Luxury/Sport offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the G90.

The CT5 Premium Luxury/Sport’s optional Automatic Parking Assist with Braking can parallel park by itself, starting and stopping automatically, with the driver only responsible for switching from reverse to drive. The G90 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Insurance will cost less for the CT5 owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the CT5 will cost $3690 to $6815 less than the G90 over a five-year period.

The CT5 will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the CT5 will retain 41.65% to 41.68% of its original price after five years, while the G90 only retains 35.84% to 36.39%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Cadillac CT5 will be $39184 to $41429 less than for the Genesis G90.

The Cadillac CT5 outsold the Genesis G90 by over seven to one during the 2021 model year.
