Both the CT4-V and Charger SRT have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The CT4-V has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Charger SRT’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the CT4-V are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Cadillac CT4-V has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The CT4-V has standard Automatic Emergency Braking, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The Charger SRT doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The CT4-V Auto has standard Reverse Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The CT4-V offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The CT4-V’s lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The CT4-V (except Blackwing) offers an optional HD Surround Vision to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Charger SRT only offers a rear monitor and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the front or sides.

Both the CT4-V and the Charger SRT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

The CT4-V comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car. The Charger SRT’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

Cadillac’s powertrain warranty covers the CT4-V 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Dodge covers the Charger SRT. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Charger SRT ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The CT4-V’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Charger SRT’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Reliability

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the CT4-V have an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the engines in the Charger SRT.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the CT4-V gets better mileage than the Charger SRT:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the CT4-V’s fuel efficiency. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the CT4-V (except Blackwing)’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Cadillac CT4-V higher (5 to 6 out of 10) than the Dodge Charger SRT (1). This means the CT4-V produces up to 45.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Charger SRT every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

The CT4-V offers a manual transmission for better acceleration, control and sportiness. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer a manual transmission.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Cadillac CT4-V, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Charger SRT.

Brakes and Stopping

The CT4-V stops much shorter than the Charger SRT:

Tires and Wheels

The CT4-V has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the CT4-V can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

Suspension and Handling

The CT4-V’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (52.3% to 47.7%) than the Charger SRT’s (56.7% to 43.3%). This gives the CT4-V more stable handling and braking.

The CT4-V Blackwing handles at 1.01 G’s, while the Charger SRT Redeye pulls only .93 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the CT4-V’s turning circle is 1.9 feet tighter than the Charger SRT’s (37.1 feet vs. 39 feet). The CT4-V Blackwing’s turning circle is .2 feet tighter than the Charger SRT’s (38.8 feet vs. 39 feet).

Chassis

The Cadillac CT4-V may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 700 to 1000 pounds less than the Dodge Charger SRT.

The CT4-V is 1 foot, 1.8 inches shorter than the Charger SRT, making the CT4-V easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The CT4-V is 6.9 inches narrower than the Charger SRT, making the CT4-V easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Towing

The CT4-V has a 1000 lbs. towing capacity. The Charger SRT has no towing capacity.

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Cadillac service is better than Dodge. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac second in service department satisfaction. With a 40% lower rating, Dodge is ranked 21st.

Ergonomics

The CT4-V offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, warning and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The CT4-V’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The Charger SRT’s parking brake has to be released manually.

The CT4-V’s front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Charger SRT’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully.

The CT4-V’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Charger SRT’s power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The CT4-V’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Charger SRT’s intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the CT4-V detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the CT4-V offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The CT4-V offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Charger SRT.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the CT4-V Auto has a standard Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Cadillac CT4-V has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Charger SRT doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

Economic Advantages

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Cadillac CT4-V will be $8269 to $19876 less than for the Dodge Charger SRT.

Recommendations

The CT4-V Blackwing was chosen as one of Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” in 2022. The Charger SRT has never been a Car and Driver “Top Ten” pick.
