Compare the2023 Genesis GV70VS 2023 Buick Envision

The GV70’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Envision doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the GV70 and Envision have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The GV70 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Envision’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The GV70 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Envision doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the GV70 deploy with different levels of force or don’t deploy at all to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The GV70’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The Envision’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The GV70 Advanced/Sport has standard Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Envision doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the GV70. But it costs extra on the Envision.

The GV70’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Envision doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the GV70 and the Envision have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the GV70 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 112 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Envision has not been tested, yet.

The GV70 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Envision’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the GV70 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Buick covers the Envision. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Envision ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The GV70’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the Envision’s (7/unlimited vs. 6/100,000).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the GV70 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Buick doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Envision.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the GV70 second among compact premium suvs in their 2022 Initial Quality Study. The Envision isn’t in the top three in its category.

The GV70’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 72 more horsepower (300 vs. 228) and 53 lbs.-ft. more torque (311 vs. 258) than the Envision’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The GV70’s optional 3.5 turbo V6 produces 147 more horsepower (375 vs. 228) and 133 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 258) than the Envision’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

The GV70 has 1.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the Envision FWD’s standard fuel tank (17.4 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The GV70 has 1.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the Envision AWD’s standard fuel tank (17.4 vs. 16.1 gallons).

The GV70’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Envision doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the GV70’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Envision:

For better traction, the GV70 Sport Prestige’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Envision (255/40R21 vs. 245/45R20).

The GV70 Sport Prestige’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Envision’s optional 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GV70 Sport Prestige offers optional 21-inch wheels. The Envision’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GV70’s wheelbase is 3.8 inches longer than on the Envision (113.2 inches vs. 109.4 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the GV70 is 1.5 inches wider in the front and 2.2 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Envision.

The GV70 has 3.6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Envision (104 vs. 100.4).

The GV70 has .9 inches more front legroom, 2.4 inches more front shoulder room, .2 inches more rear headroom and 1 inch more rear shoulder room than the Envision.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the GV70’s rear seats recline. The Envision’s rear seats don’t recline.

The GV70 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Envision with its rear seat up (28.9 vs. 25.2 cubic feet). The GV70 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Envision with its rear seat folded (56.9 vs. 52.7 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the GV70’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Envision doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the GV70. The Envision doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The GV70’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Envision’s (3500 vs. 1500 pounds).

The engine in the GV70 is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the Envision. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

The GV70’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Envision’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

The GV70 has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The Envision doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

The GV70’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Envision’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Consumer Reports rated the GV70’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the Envision’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the GV70 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Envision doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The GV70 has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning costs extra on the Envision.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Genesis GV70 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Envision Avenir offers wireless charging.

The GV70 Advanced/Sport Prestige’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Envision Avenir’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

The GV70 will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the GV70 will retain 51.14% to 51.23% of its original price after five years, while the Envision only retains 43.87% to 43.96%.

Consumer Reports® recommends both the Genesis GV70 and the Buick Envision, based on reliability, safety and performance.
