Compare the2023 Hyundai Elantra NVS 2022 Genesis G70

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Elantra N Auto has standard Reverse Parking Collision Avoidance Assist that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The G70 doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the Elantra N and the G70 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

There are almost 3 times as many Hyundai dealers as there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Elantra N’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Hyundai third in reliability, above the industry average. With 7 more problems per 100 vehicles, Genesis is ranked fourth.

The Elantra N’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 24 more horsepower (276 vs. 252) and 29 lbs.-ft. more torque (289 vs. 260) than the G70 2.0T’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

On the EPA test cycle the Elantra N gets better mileage than the G70:

The Elantra N offers a manual transmission for better acceleration, control and fuel economy. The G70 doesn’t offer a manual transmission.

The Elantra N offers an optional sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The G70 doesn’t offer an SMG.

For better stopping power the Elantra N’s brake rotors are larger than those on the G70:

The Elantra N’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the G70 2.0T are solid, not vented.

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The Elantra N has a standard brake assist system to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The G70 doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.

The Elantra N stops much shorter than the G70:

For better traction, the Elantra N has larger tires than the G70 (245/35R19 vs. 225/45R18). The Elantra N’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the G70 (245/35R19 vs. 225/40R19).

The Elantra N’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the G70’s standard 45 series tires. The Elantra N’s tires are lower profile than the G70’s optional 40 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Elantra N has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the G70.

The Elantra N handles at .99 G’s, while the G70 pulls only .94 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Hyundai Elantra N may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 600 pounds less than the Genesis G70.

To minimize engine movement during hard acceleration and transmission shifts, the Elantra N has solid engine mounts. The G70 uses conventional rubber.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Elantra N a Mid-size car, while the G70 is rated a Compact.

The Elantra N has 3.5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the G70 (99.4 vs. 95.9).

The Elantra N has .8 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front shoulder room, .4 inches more rear headroom, 3.2 inches more rear legroom and 1 inch more rear shoulder room than the G70.

The Elantra N has a much larger trunk than the G70 (14.2 vs. 10.5 cubic feet).
