Compare the2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVVS 2022 Tesla Model 3

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Outlander PHEV. But it costs extra on the Model 3.

The Outlander PHEV GT has a standard Multi View Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Model 3 only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Outlander PHEV’s standard rear cross-path warning system uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The Model 3 doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

Both the Outlander PHEV and the Model 3 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems and rearview cameras.

The Outlander PHEV comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Model 3’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Mitsubishi’s powertrain warranty covers the Outlander PHEV 2 years longer than Tesla covers the Model 3. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Model 3 ends after only 8 years or 100,000 miles.

There are over 2 times as many Mitsubishi dealers as there are Tesla dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Outlander PHEV’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Mitsubishi vehicles are better in initial quality than Tesla vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Mitsubishi third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 87 more problems per 100 vehicles, Tesla is ranked 31st, below the industry average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Mitsubishi vehicles are more reliable than Tesla vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Mitsubishi 5 places higher in reliability than Tesla.

The Outlander PHEV stops shorter than the Model 3:

The Outlander PHEV has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Outlander PHEV flat and controlled during cornering. The Model 3’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

For better maneuverability, the Outlander PHEV’s turning circle is 3.2 feet tighter than the Model 3’s (35.6 feet vs. 38.8 feet).

The Outlander PHEV has 5.1 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Model 3 (102.1 vs. 97).

The Outlander PHEV has .3 inches more front headroom, .1 inches more front shoulder room, .6 inches more rear headroom, 2.7 inches more rear legroom and 2 inches more rear shoulder room than the Model 3.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Outlander PHEV’s rear seats recline. The Model 3’s rear seats don’t recline.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the Outlander PHEV has a standard power liftgate, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button. The Model 3 doesn’t offer a power trunk.

The Outlander PHEV has a 1500 lbs. towing capacity. The Model 3 has no towing capacity.

A Service Reminder is standard on the Outlander PHEV to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for oil changes and vehicle inspection based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Tesla doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Model 3.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Outlander PHEV has a standard rear wiper. The Model 3 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Outlander PHEV’s standard side window demisters help clear frost or condensation from the side windows in the winter. The Model 3 doesn’t even offer side window demisters, so the driver may have to wipe the windows from the outside to gain side vision.

The Outlander PHEV GT has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Model 3 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
