Compare the2023 Chevrolet BlazerVS 2023 Cadillac XT5

Both the Blazer and the XT5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Chevrolet Blazer is safer than the Cadillac XT5:

There are over 5 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Cadillac dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Blazer’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Blazer second among midsize suvs in their 2021 Initial Quality Study. The XT5 isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in initial quality. With 22 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Chevrolet 4 places higher in reliability than Cadillac.

The Blazer’s optional 3.6 DOHC V6 produces 73 more horsepower (308 vs. 235) and 12 lbs.-ft. more torque (270 vs. 258) than the XT5’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

For better traction, the Blazer RS/Premier’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the XT5 (265/45R21 vs. 235/65R18).

The Blazer RS/Premier’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the XT5’s optional 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Blazer RS/Premier offers optional 21-inch wheels. The XT5’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Blazer has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The XT5 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Blazer is 1.6 inches wider in the front and 1.4 inches wider in the rear than on the XT5.

The Blazer RS 4x4 handles at .87 G’s, while the XT5 AWD pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Blazer uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The XT5 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the Blazer RS 4x4 is quieter than the XT5 AWD:

The Blazer has 3.3 cubic feet more passenger volume than the XT5 (107.8 vs. 104.5).

The Blazer has .1 inches more front headroom, .8 inches more front shoulder room, .2 inches more rear headroom, .6 inches more rear legroom and 2.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the XT5.

The Blazer has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the XT5 with its rear seat up (30.5 vs. 30.2 cubic feet). The Blazer has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the XT5 with its rear seat folded (64.2 vs. 63 cubic feet).

The Blazer’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the XT5’s (1500 vs. 1000 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Cadillac XT5 is only 3500 pounds. The Blazer offers up to a 4500 lbs. towing capacity.

The Blazer can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Blazer can be unhitched and driven around locally. The XT5 can’t be towed flat on the ground.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Blazer LT/RS/Premier’s available exterior PIN entry system. The XT5 doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its OnStar® can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

The Blazer offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The XT5 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Blazer will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Blazer will retain 45.48% to 48.85% of its original price after five years, while the XT5 only retains 42.46% to 44.08%.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Blazer is less expensive to operate than the XT5 because it costs $46 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Blazer than the XT5, including $52 less for a water pump, $337 less for a muffler, $24 less for a starter and $127 less for fuel injection.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Chevrolet Blazer will be $6990 to $12745 less than for the Cadillac XT5.
