Compare the2023 Honda HR-VVS 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Honda HR-V have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The Nissan Rogue Sport doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the HR-V’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Rogue Sport doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Both the HR-V and the Rogue Sport have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

For its performance in IIHS driver-side and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, updated side impact, headlight, daytime pedestrian crash prevention, and nighttime pedestrian crash prevention testing, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the HR-V its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2023, a rating granted to only 29 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Rogue Sport has not been fully tested, yet.

Honda pays for scheduled maintenance on the HR-V for 2 years and 24,000 miles. Honda will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Nissan doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Rogue Sport.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2023 Auto Issue reports that Honda vehicles are more reliable than Nissan vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Honda 10 places higher in reliability than Nissan.

The HR-V’s 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder produces 17 more horsepower (158 vs. 141) than the Rogue Sport’s 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder.

On the EPA test cycle the HR-V gets better mileage than the Rogue Sport:

The HR-V has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Rogue Sport doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

For better stopping power the HR-V’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Rogue Sport:

The HR-V EX-L AWD handles at .80 G’s, while the Rogue Sport SL 4x4 pulls only .75 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The HR-V EX-L AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.1 seconds quicker than the Rogue Sport SL 4x4 (28.5 seconds @ .56 average G’s vs. 29.6 seconds @ .53 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the HR-V’s turning circle is 1.8 feet tighter than the Rogue Sport’s (35.1 feet vs. 36.9 feet).

The HR-V uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Rogue Sport doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The HR-V has 2.7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Rogue Sport (98.7 vs. 96).

The HR-V has .6 inches more front hip room, 4.3 inches more rear legroom and .5 inches more rear hip room than the Rogue Sport.

The HR-V has a much larger cargo volume than the Rogue Sport with its rear seat up (24.4 vs. 22.9 cubic feet).

The HR-V’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The Rogue Sport’s parking brake has to be released manually.

The HR-V Sport/EX-L’s front power windows open fully with one touch of the switches, and the driver’s window also automatically closes, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Rogue Sport’s passenger windows don’t open or close automatically.

On a hot day the HR-V’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Rogue Sport can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The HR-V’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the Rogue Sport’s standard halogen headlights. LED lights also light instantly and last over twenty times longer than halogen.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Honda HR-V EX-L has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) for the front seat. The Rogue Sport doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
