The Aventador has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The McLaren GT doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.
Both the Aventador and the McLaren GT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and available rear parking sensors.
The Aventador SVJ’s standard 6.5 DOHC V12 produces 147 more horsepower (759 vs. 612) and 66 lbs.-ft. more torque (531 vs. 465) than the McLaren GT’s 4.0 turbo V8. The Aventador Ultimae’s standard 6.5 DOHC V12 produces 157 more horsepower (769 vs. 612) and 66 lbs.-ft. more torque (531 vs. 465) than the McLaren GT’s 4.0 turbo V8.
An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Aventador’s fuel efficiency. The McLaren GT doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.
The Aventador has 4.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the McLaren GT (23.8 vs. 19 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.
All wheel drive, available in the Aventador, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The McLaren GT is not available with all wheel drive.

For better traction, the Aventador has larger tires than the McLaren GT (F:255/30R20 & R:355/25R21 vs. F:225/35R20 & R:295/30R21).
The Aventador’s 255/30R20 front and 355/25R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series front and 25 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the McLaren GT’s standard 35 series front and 30 series rear tires.
For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Aventador is 1.9 inches wider in the front and .6 inches wider in the rear than on the McLaren GT.
The Aventador handles at 1.04 G’s, while the McLaren GT pulls only 1.01 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.
In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Aventador has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The McLaren GT doesn’t offer headlight washers.
The Lamborghini Aventador comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the McLaren GT isn’t available as a convertible.
