To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Aventador. But it costs extra on the R8.

Both the Aventador and the R8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available rear parking sensors.

The Aventador SVJ’s standard 6.5 DOHC V12 produces 197 more horsepower (759 vs. 562) and 125 lbs.-ft. more torque (531 vs. 406) than the R8 RWD Performance’s standard 5.2 DOHC V10. The Aventador SVJ’s 6.5 DOHC V12 produces 157 more horsepower (759 vs. 602) and 118 lbs.-ft. more torque (531 vs. 413) than the R8 Quattro Performance’s standard 5.2 DOHC V10. An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Aventador’s fuel efficiency. The R8 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The Aventador has 4.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the R8 Coupe’s standard fuel tank (23.8 vs. 19.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Aventador has 2.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the R8 Spyder’s standard fuel tank (23.8 vs. 21.1 gallons).

The Aventador’s 355/25R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 25 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the R8’s standard 30 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Aventador has standard 21-inch rear wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the R8.

The Aventador has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The R8’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Aventador’s wheelbase is 2 inches longer than on the R8 (106.3 inches vs. 104.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Aventador is 2.9 inches wider in the front and 3.1 inches wider in the rear than on the R8.

The Lamborghini Aventador may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 200 to 350 pounds less than the Audi R8.

The design of the Lamborghini Aventador amounts to more than styling. The Aventador has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .33 Cd. That is lower than the R8 (.36). A more efficient exterior helps the Aventador go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the Aventador get better fuel mileage.

The Aventador has 2.4 inches more front legroom and .4 inches more front shoulder room than the R8.

The Aventador has a much larger trunk than the R8 Coupe (5.2 vs. 4 cubic feet).

The Aventador’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The R8 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Aventador has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The R8 doesn’t offer headlight washers.
