Compare the2022 Jeep CompassVS 2022 Lincoln Corsair

The Compass’ pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Corsair doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Compass has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Corsair doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Compass Trailhawk’s standard Hill-descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Corsair doesn’t offer Hill-descent Control.

Both the Compass and the Corsair have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH, results indicate that the Jeep Compass is safer than the Lincoln Corsair:

Jeep pays for scheduled maintenance on the Compass for 3 years and unlimited miles. Jeep will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance (up to 3 oil changes). Lincoln only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Corsair.

There are over 3 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Lincoln dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Compass’ warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jeep vehicles are better in initial quality than Lincoln vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jeep above average in initial quality. With 14 more problems per 100 vehicles, Lincoln is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Jeep vehicles are more reliable than Lincoln vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Jeep 7 places higher in reliability than Lincoln.

On the EPA test cycle the Compass gets better mileage than the Corsair running its gasoline engine:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Jeep Compass uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Corsair with the 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder engine requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Compass has 2.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corsair Grand Touring Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (13.5 vs. 11.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jeep Compass higher (6 out of 10) than the Lincoln Corsair (5). This means the Compass produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Corsair every 15,000 miles.

A nine-speed automatic is optional on the Jeep Compass 4x4, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Corsair.

The Compass Trailhawk has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Corsair; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which has mileage and speed limitations, or roadside assistance and a tow-truck.

The Compass’ drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Corsair doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For better maneuverability, the Compass Trailhawk’s turning circle is 1.8 feet tighter than the Corsair’s (35.3 feet vs. 37.1 feet). The Compass’ turning circle is .8 feet tighter than the Corsair’s (36.3 feet vs. 37.1 feet).

The Jeep Compass may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 500 to 900 pounds less than the Lincoln Corsair.

The Compass is 7.2 inches shorter than the Corsair, making the Compass easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Compass has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Corsair with its rear seat folded (59.8 vs. 57.6 cubic feet).

The Compass (except Sport) offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Corsair doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Insurance will cost less for the Compass owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Compass will cost $295 less than the Corsair over a five-year period.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Compass is less expensive to operate than the Corsair because it costs $799 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Compass than the Corsair, including $174 less for a water pump, $255 less for a muffler, $81 less for front brake pads, $49 less for a starter, $271 less for fuel injection, $145 less for a fuel pump, $470 less for a timing belt/chain and $1009 less for a power steering pump.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Jeep Compass will be $9296 to $12031 less than for the Lincoln Corsair.

The Jeep Compass outsold the Lincoln Corsair by almost four to one during the 2021 model year.
