2022 Infiniti QX80
2022 Lexus LX

Safety

The QX80 Sensory’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The LX doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front and middle seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX80 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Lexus LX doesn’t offer height-adjustable middle seat belts.

Both the QX80 and the LX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and available all wheel drive.

Warranty

The QX80 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The LX’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 10,000 miles sooner.

The QX80’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the LX’s (7 vs. 6 years).

Reliability

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the QX80 has a standard 780-amp battery. The LX’s 776-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

Fuel Economy and Range

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Infiniti QX80 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The LX requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The QX80 has 4.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the LX (26 vs. 21.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the QX80’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the LX:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the QX80 has larger tires than the LX (275/60R20 vs. 265/55R20).

The QX80 Luxe’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the LX Premium\Luxury’s 65 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the QX80 Luxe has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the LX Premium\Luxury.

Suspension and Handling

For superior ride and handling, the Infiniti QX80 has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Lexus LX has a solid rear axle, with a non-independent rear suspension.

The QX80 has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the QX80 flat and controlled during cornering. The LX base model’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The rear suspension of the QX80 uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the LX, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The QX80 Sensory offers an available active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Lexus doesn’t offer an active suspension on the LX.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the QX80’s wheelbase is 8.9 inches longer than on the LX (121.1 inches vs. 112.2 inches).

Cargo Capacity

The QX80’s cargo area is larger than the LX’s in almost every dimension:

The QX80 has a standard third row seat which folds flat into the floor. This completely clears a very large cargo area quickly. The LX doesn’t offer seats that fold into the floor.

Towing

The QX80’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the LX’s (8500 vs. 8000 pounds).

Ergonomics

The LX’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The QX80 Sensory’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

The QX80 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the LX Premium/F Sport/Luxury/Ultra Luxury.

Model Availability

The QX80 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The LX doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Recommendations

The Infiniti QX80 outsold the Lexus LX by over three to one during the 2021 model year.
