The Sierra Limited has standard head airbag curtains for front and rear seats which act as a forgiving barrier between the driver and outboard passenger's upper bodies and the window and pillars. Combined with high-strength steel door beams and lower side airbags this system increases head protection in broadside collisions. The Hummer EV Pickup doesn't offer side airbag protection for the head and are only available for the front seats.

Full-time four-wheel drive is optional on the Sierra Limited. Full-time four-wheel drive gives added traction for safety in all conditions, not just off-road, like the only system available on the Hummer EV Pickup.

Both the Sierra Limited and the Hummer EV Pickup have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

For its top level performance in all IIHS frontal, side, rear impact and roof-crush tests, and with its optional front crash prevention system, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Sierra Limited the rating of “Top Safety Pick” for 2017, a rating granted to only 203 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Hummer EV Pickup has not been tested, yet.

The Sierra Limited stops much shorter than the Hummer EV Pickup:

The Sierra Limited’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Hummer EV Pickup’s 70 series tires.

For better load carrying, ride, handling and brake cooling the Sierra Limited offers optional 22-inch wheels. The Hummer EV Pickup’s largest wheels are only 18-inches.

The Sierra Limited has a standard full size spare so a flat doesn’t interrupt your work or a trip. A full size spare costs extra on the Hummer EV Pickup. Without the option you must depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Sierra 1500 Limited Short Bed Crew Cab’s wheelbase is 11.8 inches longer than on the Hummer EV Pickup (147.4 inches vs. 135.6 inches). The Sierra 1500 Limited Standard Bed Crew Cab’s wheelbase is 21.4 inches longer than on the Hummer EV Pickup (157 inches vs. 135.6 inches).

The GMC Sierra Limited may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 3600 to 4700 pounds less than the GMC Hummer EV Pickup.

The Sierra Limited is 5.5 inches narrower than the Hummer EV Pickup, making the Sierra Limited easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The Sierra Limited Crew Cab has standard seating for 6 passengers; the Hummer EV Pickup can only carry 5.

The Sierra Limited Crew Cab shortbed has a much larger cargo box than the Hummer EV Regular Cab shortbed (63.9 vs. 36.7 cubic feet).

The Hummer EV Pickup’s spare tire is stored in the cargo area, where it diminishes the useable cargo capacity and interferes with loading and unloading. The Sierra Limited’s spare is out of the way underneath.

Maximum trailer towing in the GMC Hummer EV Pickup is limited to 7500 pounds. The Sierra 1500 Limited Standard Bed Double Cab 4x4 offers up to a 12100 lbs. towing capacity.

The Sierra Limited 4x4 with optional equipment can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Sierra Limited can be unhitched and driven around locally. The Hummer EV Pickup can’t be towed flat on the ground.

The Sierra 1500 Limited Short Bed Crew Cab 4x4 has a much higher standard payload capacity than the Hummer EV Pickup (2010 vs. 1300 lbs.).
