Both the Sequoia and the LX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available four-wheel drive.

Toyota pays for scheduled maintenance on the Sequoia for 1 year and 15000 miles longer than Lexus pays for maintenance for the LX (2/25000 vs. 1/10,000).

There are over 5 times as many Toyota dealers as there are Lexus dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Sequoia’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Sequoia’s reliability 25 points higher than the LX.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Sequoia first among large suvs in their 2021 Initial Quality Study. The LX isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Lexus vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota above average in long-term dependability. With 34 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Lexus is rated lower.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Lexus vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota second in overall reliability. Lexus is ranked third.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Toyota Sequoia uses regular unleaded gasoline. The LX requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Sequoia has 5.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the LX (26.4 vs. 21.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the Sequoia’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the LX:

For better traction, the Sequoia has larger tires than the LX (275/65R18 vs. 265/55R20).

For superior ride and handling, the Toyota Sequoia has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Lexus LX has a solid rear axle, with a non-independent rear suspension.

The Sequoia has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Sequoia flat and controlled during cornering. The LX base model’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Sequoia’s wheelbase is 9.8 inches longer than on the LX (122 inches vs. 112.2 inches).

For better maneuverability, the Sequoia’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the LX’s (38.1 feet vs. 39.4 feet).

The Sequoia’s cargo area is larger than the LX’s in almost every dimension:

The Sequoia’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the liftgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The LX’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

The Sequoia is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The LX doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
