Both the Range Rover Evoque and Escape FHEV have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover Evoque has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Escape FHEV’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Escape FHEV doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Range Rover Evoque. But it costs extra on the Escape FHEV.

The Range Rover Evoque offers an optional 3D Surround Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Escape FHEV only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Range Rover Evoque and the Escape FHEV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

The Range Rover Evoque comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Escape FHEV’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The Range Rover Evoque’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Escape FHEV’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Engine

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 46 more horsepower (246 vs. 200) than the Escape FHEV’s 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid. The Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic HST’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 96 more horsepower (296 vs. 200) than the Escape FHEV’s 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid.

Fuel Economy and Range

Both the Range Rover Evoque and the Escape FHEV have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. All Range Rover Evoque’s have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The Range Rover Evoque has 3.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the Escape FHEV (17.7 vs. 14.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Range Rover Evoque’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Escape FHEV:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Range Rover Evoque has larger standard tires than the Escape FHEV (235/60R18 vs. 225/65R17). The Range Rover Evoque’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Escape FHEV (245/45R21 vs. 225/65R17).

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Escape FHEV’s standard 65 series tires. The Range Rover Evoque’s optional tires have a lower 45 series profile than the Escape FHEV’s optional 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Evoque has standard 18-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Escape FHEV. The Range Rover Evoque’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels optional on the Escape FHEV.

Suspension and Handling

The Range Rover Evoque offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Escape FHEV’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Range Rover Evoque is 1.6 inches wider in the front and 2.5 inches wider in the rear than on the Escape FHEV.

The Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic HST handles at .80 G’s, while the Escape FHEV SE AWD pulls only .77 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic HST executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Escape FHEV SE AWD (27.9 seconds @ .63 average G’s vs. 28.3 seconds @ .6 average G’s).

Chassis

The Range Rover Evoque is 8.4 inches shorter than the Escape FHEV, making the Range Rover Evoque easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Towing

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Escape FHEV’s (3968 vs. 1500 pounds).

Servicing Ease

The Range Rover Evoque uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Escape FHEV uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors optional in the Escape FHEV (except SE), the Range Rover Evoque offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Range Rover Evoque’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Escape FHEV’s standard power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully. Only its driver’s window opens automatically.

The Range Rover Evoque’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Escape FHEV’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover Evoque to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Escape FHEV doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Range Rover Evoque offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Escape FHEV doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Ford charges extra for heated mirrors on the Escape FHEV.

When the Range Rover Evoque with available tilt-down mirrors is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Escape FHEV’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Escape FHEV offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Range Rover Evoque has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats cost extra on the Escape FHEV. The Range Rover Evoque also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Escape FHEV.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Range Rover Evoque SE/HST/R-Dynamic S keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Escape FHEV doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Escape FHEV SEL/Titanium offers wireless charging and it costs extra.

Economic Advantages

The Range Rover Evoque will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Range Rover Evoque will retain 49.77% to 51.37% of its original price after five years, while the Escape FHEV only retains 44.81% to 45.23%.
