Both the Range Rover Sport and AMG GLC Coupe have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover Sport has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The AMG GLC Coupe’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Range Rover Sport’s standard Hill Descent Control allow you to creep down safely. The AMG GLC Coupe doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

The Range Rover Sport’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the AMG GLC Coupe.

Both the Range Rover Sport and the AMG GLC Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport weighs 637 to 1197 pounds more than the Mercedes AMG GLC Coupe. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Range Rover Sport’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the AMG GLC Coupe’s (6 vs. 5 years).

The Range Rover Sport P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 10 more horsepower (395 vs. 385) and 21 lbs.-ft. more torque (405 vs. 384) than the AMG GLC Coupe’s 3.0 turbo V6. The Range Rover Sport’s optional 5.0 supercharged V8 produces 133 more horsepower (518 vs. 385) and 77 lbs.-ft. more torque (461 vs. 384) than the AMG GLC Coupe’s 3.0 turbo V6. The Range Rover Sport SVR’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8 produces 190 more horsepower (575 vs. 385) and 132 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 384) than the AMG GLC Coupe’s 3.0 turbo V6.

Regenerative brakes improve the Range Rover Sport’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The AMG GLC Coupe doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Range Rover Sport has 10.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the AMG GLC Coupe (27.5 vs. 17.4 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard full size spare (not available on 7-Passenger/P400e) so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the AMG GLC Coupe; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare or run-flat tires, either of which has mileage and speed limitations.

The Range Rover Sport V8 has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The AMG GLC Coupe doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Range Rover Sport’s wheelbase is 2 inches longer than on the AMG GLC Coupe (115.1 inches vs. 113.1 inches).

Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) is standard on the Range Rover Sport, using the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. A trailer sway program costs extra on the AMG GLC Coupe.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Range Rover Sport has a standard rear wiper. The AMG GLC Coupe doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Range Rover Sport has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The AMG GLC Coupe doesn’t offer headlight washers.

Optional air conditioned the front and second row seats keep the Range Rover Sport’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The AMG GLC Coupe doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the AMG GLC Coupe.

Insurance will cost less for the Range Rover Sport owner. The Car Book by Jack Gillis rates the Range Rover Sport with a number “1” insurance rate while the AMG GLC Coupe is rated higher at a number “10” rate.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Range Rover Sport is less expensive to operate than the AMG GLC Coupe because typical repairs cost much less on the Range Rover Sport than the AMG GLC Coupe, including $477 less for a water pump, $375 less for a muffler, $103 less for front brake pads, $9 less for a starter, $72 less for front struts and $1123 less for a power steering pump.

The Range Rover Sport was selected by Petersen's 4-Wheel & Off-Road magazine as their 2014 4x4 of the Year. The AMG GLC Coupe has never been chosen.
