The ProMaster City Tradesman has standard child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The NV200 doesn’t offer child safety locks.

The Ram ProMaster City Tradesman has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The NV200 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Both the ProMaster City Tradesman and the NV200 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front-wheel drive, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

There are over 2 times as many Ram dealers as there are Nissan dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the ProMaster City Tradesman’s warranty.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the ProMaster City Tradesman has a standard 160-amp alternator. The NV200’s 150-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the ProMaster City Tradesman has a standard 700-amp battery. The NV200’s 470-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ram vehicles are better in initial quality than Nissan vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Ram first in initial quality, above the industry average. With 18 more problems per 100 vehicles, Nissan is ranked fifth.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Ram vehicles are more reliable than Nissan vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Ram 6 places higher in reliability than Nissan.

The ProMaster City Tradesman’s 2.4 DOHC 4-cylinder produces 47 more horsepower (178 vs. 131) and 35 lbs.-ft. more torque (174 vs. 139) than the NV200’s 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder.

The ProMaster City Tradesman has 1.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the NV200 (16 vs. 14.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Ram ProMaster City Tradesman higher (6 out of 10) than the Nissan NV200 (3). This means the ProMaster City Tradesman produces up to 23.4 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the NV200 every 15,000 miles.

For better traction, the ProMaster City Tradesman has larger tires than the NV200 (215/55R16 vs. 185/60R15).

The ProMaster City Tradesman’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the NV200’s standard 60 series tires.

For better load carrying, ride, handling and brake cooling the ProMaster City Tradesman has standard 16-inch wheels. Only 15-inch wheels are available on the NV200.

For superior ride and handling, the Ram ProMaster City Tradesman has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Nissan NV200 has a solid rear axle, with a non-independent rear suspension.

The ProMaster City Tradesman has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the ProMaster City Tradesman flat and controlled during cornering. The NV200’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The front and rear suspension of the ProMaster City Tradesman uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the NV200, which uses leaf springs in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the ProMaster City Tradesman’s wheelbase is 7.2 inches longer than on the NV200 (122.4 inches vs. 115.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the ProMaster City Tradesman is 1.1 inches wider in the rear than on the NV200.

The ProMaster City Tradesman has 8.7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the NV200 (64.3 vs. 55.6).

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the ProMaster City Tradesman uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The NV200 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The ProMaster City Tradesman has a much higher standard payload capacity than the NV200 (1890 vs. 1492 lbs.).

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the ProMaster City Tradesman to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for oil changes based on actual driving conditions. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Nissan doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the NV200.

The ProMaster City Tradesman offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The NV200 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The ProMaster City Tradesman’s standard tilting steering column adjusts to different sized drivers and makes entering and exiting easier. Nissan doesn’t offer tilt steering on the NV200.

To help each driver find a more comfortable driving position, the ProMaster City Tradesman has a telescoping steering wheel. Much better than just a tilt steering wheel or adjustable seat, this allows a short driver to sit further from the steering wheel while maintaining contact with the pedals. The NV200 doesn’t offer a telescoping steering wheel.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the ProMaster City Tradesman offers an optional rear wiper. The NV200 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the ProMaster City Tradesman has standard extendable sun visors. The NV200 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The ProMaster City Tradesman has standard remote mirrors. The NV200 S doesn’t offer either a remote driver side or passenger side mirror. The driver will have to roll down the windows and reach across the car to adjust the mirrors.

The ProMaster City Tradesman’s optional power mirror controls are mounted on the door for easy access. The NV200 SV’s power mirror controls are on the dash where they are possibly hidden by the steering wheel and are awkward to manipulate.

The ProMaster City Tradesman offers optional heated front seats, which keep the driver and front passenger extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated seats aren’t available in the NV200.

Insurance will cost less for the ProMaster City Tradesman owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the ProMaster City Tradesman will cost $75 to $310 less than the NV200 over a five-year period.

The ProMaster City Tradesman will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the ProMaster City Tradesman will retain 47.07% to 47.52% of its original price after five years, while the NV200 only retains 46.18% to 46.42%.
