The Metris Passenger offers optional Active Brake Assist, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.

The Metris Passenger’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The Metris Passenger offers optional Parktronic™ to help warn the driver about vehicles, pedestrians or other obstacles behind or in front of their vehicle. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer a front parking aid.

The Metris Passenger’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The Metris Passenger has standard Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Metris Passenger and the ProMaster City Wagon have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available blind spot warning systems.

The Mercedes Metris Passenger weighs 726 pounds more than the Ram ProMaster City Wagon. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Reliability

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Metris Passenger has a standard 190-amp alternator. The ProMaster City Wagon’s 160-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Metris Passenger has a standard 850-amp battery. The ProMaster City Wagon’s 700-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

The battery on the Metris Passenger is under the seat, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the Metris Passenger’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The ProMaster City Wagon’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Mercedes vehicles are more reliable than Ram With 71 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Mercedes higher than Ram.

Engine

The Metris Passenger’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 30 more horsepower (208 vs. 178) and 84 lbs.-ft. more torque (258 vs. 174) than the ProMaster City Wagon’s 2.4 DOHC 4-cylinder.

Fuel Economy and Range

Regenerative brakes improve the Metris Passenger’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Metris Passenger has 2.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the ProMaster City Wagon (18.5 vs. 16 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Transmission

For more complete vehicle control the Metris Passenger has a manually controlled automatic, with the available convenience of an automatic transmission and the complete gear control of a manual transmission without the inconvenience of a clutch. A manually controlled automatic allows the driver to eliminate unwanted shifts and maximize engine braking by down shifting while cornering. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer a transmission that allows complete gear control.

Brakes and Stopping

The Mercedes Metris Passenger has standard four-wheel disc brakes for better stopping power and improved directional control in poor weather. Only rear drums come on the ProMaster City Wagon. Drums can heat up and make stops longer, especially with antilock brakes that work much harder than conventional brakes.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Metris Passenger has larger tires than the ProMaster City Wagon (235/55R17 vs. 215/55R16).

For better load carrying, ride, handling and brake cooling the Metris Passenger has standard 17-inch wheels. Only 16-inch wheels are available on the ProMaster City Wagon.

The Metris Passenger has a standard full size spare so a flat doesn’t interrupt your work or a trip. A full size spare costs extra on the ProMaster City Wagon. Without the option you must depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The Metris Passenger’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Metris Passenger’s wheelbase is 3.6 inches longer than on the ProMaster City Wagon (126 inches vs. 122.4 inches).

For better maneuverability, the Metris Passenger’s turning circle is 5.6 feet tighter than the ProMaster City Wagon’s (36.4 feet vs. 42 feet).

Passenger Space

The Metris Passenger has standard seating for 8 passengers; the ProMaster City Wagon can only carry 5.

The Metris Passenger has 6.1 inches more front hip room, 3.3 inches more front shoulder room, 6.3 inches more rear hip room and 6.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the ProMaster City Wagon.

The Metris Passenger’s available liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area. The ProMaster City Wagon’s two swing out doors impair rear visibility, need a lot of clearance, and can block loading in tight quarters.

The Metris Passenger’s optional rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the double swing out door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The ProMaster City Wagon’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the Metris Passenger offers an optional power cargo door, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer a power cargo door.

Towing

The Metris Passenger’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the ProMaster City Wagon’s (5000 vs. 1870 pounds).

Servicing Ease

The engine in the Metris Passenger is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the ProMaster City Wagon. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

Ergonomics

When three different drivers share the Metris Passenger, the optional memory seats make it convenient for all three. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer memory seats.

If the front windows are left open on the Metris Passenger the driver can close them from a distance using the remote (remote must be aimed at door sensor). On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the ProMaster City Wagon can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Metris Passenger has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

The Metris Passenger’s standard variable intermittent wipers have an adjustable delay to allow the driver to choose a setting that best clears the windshield during light rain or mist. The ProMaster City Wagon’s fixed intermittent wipers only have one fixed delay setting, so the driver will have to manually switch them between slow and intermittent. The Metris Passenger’s optional wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically according to the amount of rainfall on the windshield.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Metris Passenger to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The Metris Passenger has a standard automatic headlight on/off feature. When the ignition is on, the headlights automatically turn on at dusk and off after dawn. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer automatic headlights.

The Metris Passenger’s optional dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

The Metris Passenger’s standard automatic temperature control maintains the temperature you set to maintain a consistent, comfortable environment. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer automatic air conditioning.

For greater rear passenger comfort, the Metris Passenger has standard rear a/c vents to keep rear occupants more comfortable. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer rear vents.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the Metris Passenger offers an optional Active Distance Assist Distronic, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

The Metris Passenger’s optional Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The ProMaster City Wagon doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
