For enhanced safety, the front and middle seat shoulder belts of the Bentley Bentayga have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Jaguar F-Pace doesn’t offer pretensioners for the middle seat belts.

The Bentayga’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The F-Pace doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Bentley Bentayga are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar F-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Bentayga has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Bentayga helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then projects the image on the windshield, near the driver’s line of sight. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Compared to metal, the Bentayga’s plastic fuel tank can withstand harder, more intrusive impacts without leaking; this decreases the possibility of fire. The Jaguar F-Pace has a metal gas tank.

Both the Bentayga and the F-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available collision warning systems and lane departure warning systems.

The Bentley Bentayga weighs 947 to 1598 pounds more than the Jaguar F-Pace. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The Bentayga comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The F-Pace’s 60,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Bentayga 4.0 turbo V8 gets better fuel mileage than the F-Pace SVR 5.0 supercharged V8 (15 city/24 hwy vs. 15 city/22 hwy).

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Bentayga’s fuel efficiency. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Bentayga’s brake rotors are larger than those on the F-Pace:

The Bentayga offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The F-Pace doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Bentayga has larger tires than the F-Pace (285/45R21 vs. 255/55R19). The Bentayga’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the F-Pace (285/45R21 vs. 265/45R21).

The Bentayga’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the F-Pace’s standard 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Bentayga has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the F-Pace.

Suspension and Handling

The Bentayga offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The F-Pace doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the Bentayga uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the F-Pace, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Bentayga offers an available active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Jaguar doesn’t offer an active suspension on the F-Pace.

The Bentayga has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Bentayga’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Bentayga’s wheelbase is 4.8 inches longer than on the F-Pace (117.9 inches vs. 113.1 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Bentayga is 1.8 inches wider in the front and 1.5 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the F-Pace.

The Bentayga SPEED handles at .93 G’s, while the F-Pace pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Bentayga SPEED executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.2 seconds quicker than the F-Pace (24.6 seconds @ .79 average G’s vs. 26.8 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Bentayga has a 1.3 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the F-Pace (9.7 vs. 8.4 inches), allowing the Bentayga to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The design of the Bentley Bentayga amounts to more than styling. The Bentayga has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .34 Cd. That is lower than the F-Pace (.36). A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Bentayga get better fuel mileage.

Passenger Space

The Bentayga offers optional seating for 7 passengers; the F-Pace can only carry 5.

The Bentayga has .6 inches more front headroom, 1.4 inches more front legroom, 1 inch more front shoulder room, 3.7 inches more rear legroom and 2 inches more rear shoulder room than the F-Pace.

Towing

The Bentayga’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the F-Pace’s (7165 vs. 5291 pounds).

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the F-Pace (except Base), the Bentayga has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Bentayga’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the F-Pace, and is not available on all models.

The Bentayga has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Bentayga to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the F-Pace.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Bentayga has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The F-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Bentayga has standard extendable sun visors. The F-Pace doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Bentayga to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The F-Pace doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Optional air conditioned the front and second row seats keep the Bentayga’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The F-Pace doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Bentayga has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the F-Pace.

Both the Bentayga and the F-Pace offer available massaging front seats. The Bentayga also offers optional massaging second row seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the F-Pace.

Recommendations

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its November 2019 issue and they ranked the Bentley Bentayga SPEED higher than the Jaguar F-Pace SVR.
