The iX’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The I-Pace doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The BMW iX has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The iX has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The iX has standard Active Park Distance Control that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the iX and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The BMW iX weighs 875 to 985 pounds more than the Jaguar I-Pace. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The iX’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the I-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are almost 2 times as many BMW dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the iX’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW 10th in reliability, above the industry average. With 78 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 31st.

The iX xDrive50’s standard electric motors produce 122 more horsepower (516 vs. 394) and 52 lbs.-ft. more torque (564 vs. 512) than the I-Pace’s electric motors. The iX M60’s standard electric motors produce 216 more horsepower (610 vs. 394) and 299 lbs.-ft. more torque (811 vs. 512) than the I-Pace’s electric motors.

For better traction, the iX’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the I-Pace (275/40R22 vs. 255/40R22).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the iX is 1.3 inches wider in the front and 1.8 inches wider in the rear than on the I-Pace.

For greater off-road capability the iX has a greater minimum ground clearance than the I-Pace (8.8 vs. 7.8 inches), allowing the iX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The design of the BMW iX amounts to more than styling. The iX has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .25 Cd. That is significantly lower than the I-Pace (.29) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the iX get better fuel mileage.

The iX has 1.6 inches more front headroom, 3.9 inches more front shoulder room, 1.4 inches more rear headroom, 3.9 inches more rear legroom and 3.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the I-Pace.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that BMW service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks BMW 8th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 13% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 18th.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the iX has a standard rear wiper. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the iX has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The I-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights. The iX also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The iX offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the I-Pace.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the BMW iX has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the I-Pace.

The iX’s Automatic Parking Assistant can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The I-Pace’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.
