The E-Transit has standard child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The NV doesn’t offer child safety locks.

The E-Transit has standard Automatic Emergency Braking, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The NV doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.

The E-Transit has standard Post-Collision Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The NV doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The E-Transit offers an optional Reverse Brake Assist that use rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The NV doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The E-Transit’s lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The NV doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The E-Transit offers an optional 360-Degree Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The NV only offers a rear monitor and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the front or sides.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the E-Transit’s optional rear cross-path warning system uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The NV doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

The E-Transit’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The NV doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

For better protection of the passenger compartment, the E-Transit uses safety cell construction with a three-dimensional high-strength frame that surrounds the passenger compartment. It provides extra impact protection and a sturdy mounting location for door hardware and side impact beams. The NV uses a body-on-frame design, which has no frame members above the floor of the vehicle.

The E-Transit has standard SYNC®, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The NV doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the E-Transit and the NV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, rearview cameras, available daytime running lights and blind spot warning systems.

Ford’s powertrain warranty covers the E-Transit 3 years longer than Nissan covers the NV. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the NV ends after only 5 years or 100,000 miles.

There are almost 3 times as many Ford dealers as there are Nissan dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the E-Transit’s warranty.

The E-Transit’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 65 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the NV 3500’s standard 75 series tires. The E-Transit’s tires are lower profile than the NV 1500/2500’s 70 series tires.

For superior ride and handling, the Ford E-Transit has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Nissan NV has a solid rear axle, with a non-independent rear suspension.

The E-Transit has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The NV’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The front and rear suspension of the E-Transit uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the NV, which uses leaf springs in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

For much better steering response and tighter handling the E-Transit has rack and pinion steering, like Formula racecars, instead of the recirculating-ball type steering of the NV.

The E-Transit’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The NV doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the E-Transit T350 Long’s wheelbase is 1.9 inches longer than on the NV (148 inches vs. 146.1 inches).

For better maneuverability, the E-Transit T350 Regular’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the NV’s (42.9 feet vs. 45.2 feet).

The E-Transit T350 Regular Medium Roof is 1 foot, 10.8 inches shorter than the NV, making the E-Transit easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Unibody construction makes the E-Transit’s chassis much stiffer, which contributes to better handling, and enables softer springs to be used for a better ride. Unibody construction’s stiffness also contributes to better durability and less body squeaks and rattles. The NV doesn’t use unibody construction, but a body-on-frame design.

The engine computer on the E-Transit automatically engages the starter until the car starts with one twist of the key and disables the starter while the engine is running. The NV’s starter can be accidentally engaged while the engine is running, making a grinding noise and possibly damaging the starter and ring gear.

To help each driver find a more comfortable driving position, the E-Transit has a telescoping steering wheel. Much better than just a tilt steering wheel or adjustable seat, this allows a short driver to sit further from the steering wheel while maintaining contact with the pedals. The NV doesn’t offer a telescoping steering wheel.

The E-Transit’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The NV’s parking brake has to be released manually.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the E-Transit’s available exterior PIN entry system. The NV doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system.

Intelligent Access optional on the E-Transit allows you to unlock the driver’s door, cargo door and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Nissan NV doesn’t offer an advanced key system.

The E-Transit’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The NV’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The E-Transit has a standard automatic headlight on/off feature. When the ignition is on, the headlights automatically turn on at dusk and off after dawn. The NV doesn’t offer automatic headlights.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the E-Transit detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The NV doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

The E-Transit has standard power remote mirrors. The NV 1500 S doesn’t offer either a remote driver side or passenger side mirror. The driver will have to roll down the windows and reach across the car to adjust the mirrors.

The E-Transit’s optional rear view mirror has an automatic dimming feature. This mirror can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on it, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The NV doesn’t offer the luxury of an automatic dimming rear view mirror.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the E-Transit offers an optional Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The NV doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

The E-Transit’s optional Enhanced Active Park Assist can parallel park by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The NV doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
