Compare the2022 Ford GTVS 2020 McLaren Senna

The GT has standard SYNC®, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Senna doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the GT and the Senna have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and available rearview cameras.

There are over 120 times as many Ford dealers as there are McLaren dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the GT’s warranty.

The Senna’s redline is at 8000 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The GT has a 7000 RPM redline.

The GT has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The Senna doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the car’s engine.

For better traction and acceleration, the GT has larger rear tires than the Senna (325/30R20 vs. 315/30R20).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GT has standard 20-inch wheels. Only 19-inch front wheels are available on the Senna.

The Ford GT’s wheels have 5 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The McLaren Senna only has 1 wheel lugs per wheel.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GT’s wheelbase is 1.7 inches longer than on the Senna (106.7 inches vs. 105 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the GT is 1.6 inches wider in the front and 1.7 inches wider in the rear than on the Senna.

For better maneuverability, the GT’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the Senna’s (40 feet vs. 42.3 feet).

The GT (except Competition Series) uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Senna doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the GT is quieter than the Senna (100 vs. 102 dB).

The GT’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Senna does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The GT’s front power windows open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Senna’s power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them.

The GT’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Senna’s available power window controls are in the ceiling, forcing the driver's attention away from the road to locate them.

On a hot day the GT’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Senna can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

To help keep the driver’s hands on the wheel, the GT has standard steering wheel controls for the radio. The Senna doesn’t offer steering wheel audio controls.

With standard voice command, the GT offers the driver hands free control of the radio, climate controls and the navigation computer by simply speaking. The Senna doesn’t offer a voice control system.

Bluetooth wireless connectivity is standard on the GT, connecting the driver and passenger’s cell phones to the vehicle systems. This allows them to use the vehicle’s stereo and hand controls to place calls safely and easily. Bluetooth costs extra on the Senna.

The GT was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2018. The Senna has never been an “All Star.”
