Compare the2022 Ford GTVS 2022 Maserati MC20

The Ford GT has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The MC20 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Both the GT and the MC20 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and available rearview cameras.

The GT comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The MC20’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

The GT’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the MC20’s (5/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).

There are almost 26 times as many Ford dealers as there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the GT’s warranty.

The MC20’s redline is at 8000 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The GT has a 7000 RPM redline.

The GT has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The MC20 doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the car’s engine.

The GT’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 26 more horsepower (647 vs. 621) and 12 lbs.-ft. more torque (550 vs. 538) than the MC20’s 3.0 turbo V6.

For better stopping power the GT’s brake rotors are larger than those on the MC20:

The GT has standard air brakes, which adjust the rear spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The MC20 doesn’t offer air brakes.

For better traction and acceleration, the GT has larger rear tires than the MC20 (325/30R20 vs. 305/30R20).

The GT has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The MC20 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The Ford GT may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 pounds less than the Maserati MC20.

The design of the Ford GT amounts to more than styling. The GT has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .35 Cd. That is lower than the MC20 (.38). A more efficient exterior helps the GT go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the GT get better fuel mileage.

The GT (except Competition Series) uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The MC20 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The GT’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The MC20 has neither an oil pressure gauge nor a temperature gauge.

The GT’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The MC20’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

Intelligent Access standard on the GT allows you to unlock the driver’s door, trunk and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Maserati MC20’s Extended Keyless Go doesn’t unlock the trunk.

The GT was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2018. The MC20 has never been an “All Star.”
